Has anyone seen the MBRP straight through muffler kit with the turn down? its super cheap at some websites under 200 bucks. Now, Im thinking of using the catback and instead of using the turn down pipe, attaching it to the factory resonator pipe still... Im hoping for slightly less quieter version of the MBRP (which I heard sounds deeper and louder) and the gains of the better muffler. My goal you ask? muffled exhaust, better then factory performance wise, but without the loudness of it. I want more volume sure, just nothing obnoxious. Has anyone tried this or heard of it being done? Or maybe kept the resonator with another muffler installed? I just want something that sounds slightly louder then stock, but gain performance obviously.

if all you want is the muffler then just go to a muffler shop and have them cut out the factory muffler and resonator and weld in a muffler of your choice. might be cheaper than the $200 for the mbrp kit

well I want to leave the resonator in place though. I guess just looking for a straight through muffler in the place of the factory, but hearing the MBRP, sounded like it made nice music, just wanted it turned down a bit

I’m sure you can buy just the muffler from mbrp and have a shop only cut out the muffler and not the resonator. Not sure whatThey would charge for just that though. They also have magnaflow or flowmaster mufflers on Amazon for under $100.

Why not first go with just a muffler delete? It's cheap at around $50.00 - $75.00 depending on your area before spending hundreds on something that sounds similar. There have been a few who have done it and it sounds great. @Doc and @spicydaddy both have videos below.

I am not saying it sounds bad cause it actually doesnt, but adding a straight through muffler might "refine" the tone abit more and possibly make it slightly deeper, thats kinda what I am going for. And maybe I will go to a local muffler shop and get a magnaflow or something welded in but keeping the factory resonator in place

I have the MBRP cat back with the turn down, it's definitely NOT quiet. If you spend a little more and get the one that follows the stock pattern and exits out the side, it'll probably be quieter in the truck.

Well my point in my original post was to use the MBRP with the turn down since I can buy it for $180 shipped, new... Then instead of the turndown pipe, weld/clamp that factory resonator pipe into the MBRP outlet side. Since the MBRP kit with the section of pipe that heads out to the side out, doesnt have a resonator in-line, it should be even quieter. Make sense? And I seem to like the way the MBRP sounds albeit I have only heard it through youtube videos.
So to recap, it will be the MBRP muffler with factory resonator and pipe out.

The point of aftermarket exhaust is to free up the flow. Putting the stock resonator on kind of defeats the purpose. If you just kick it out the side, it will reduce the in cabin noise, and still get you the benefits of a freer-flowing exhaust.

The resonator is a straight through pipe with hundred of perforated holes on the sides along the inside pipe.. It will not cause a restriction unless the inside diameter is reduced greatly which i doubt it is. I havent removed it so I am not entirely sure the dimension of it. But, it should be non restrictive, its purpose is solely to quiet and smooth out the exhaust waves/pulses.
