UPDATE THIS ISSUE: My Dealer said Ford received three fault codes after this occurrence. A diagnostic would not show the problem unless they could duplicate this event. Advised to monitor and if no re-occurrence could be a just temporary glitch.

Last night I was on the freeway with the headlights on. Suddenly the instrument lights turned off (no flickering) and after about 30 seconds I turned the light switch off and then on again and instrument lights still off. About 15 seconds later they came back on and after 1 hr. of driving, stopped and turned off the lights and the engine. Started back up and the lights worked normally after driving another 1/2 hr.

Has anyone experienced a similar problem?

When the instrument lights went out it was still just a bit too light to see if the headlights also went out. When the shut off occurred had the cruise control, fog lights on and also the Garmin GPS plugged into the 12 v receptable.

My thinking is that it could have been:
1. A faulty fuse
2. A temporary overload
3. An electrical problem: wiring, etc.

I looked at the fuse diagram this AM, and it is probably the #16 or #20 slot in the Cabin fuse box? Does anyone know for certain which fuse slot connects with these lights so I can replace the fuse if needed?

I am still under warranty so will call the Dealer tomorrow and see if they will give me a free scan (leaving the same fuse in for the test). When my infotainment display had an image problem, they did a scan for no charge.

I had this happen once on my 2004 DeVille. turned out to be the ground to the engine rusted off. the starter also wouldn't work so that was easier diagnosis. my guess is a loose wire somewhere
