Ipod not able to 'Search"

So I have an older Ipod Classic that still works well. I recently installed it via USB in my Ranger's Sync 3 system. It will play music just fine, but if I try to get into the menu of the Ipod to change 'Artists' it always gives me a 'unable to search at this time' message. At first I thought it was because the truck was in motion. But at a stand still made no difference. All I can do is skip to the next song, nothing else.

FYI: all aspects of the ipod work fine in a different vehicle (Not Sync 3).

Any ideas?

Can you search if the truck is in park?

Is it possible to re-index the music on the iPod in Sync?

When using the iPod menu, I’m guessing it is locking you out since it’s connected to Sync3. Try using the Browse function from the Sync Audio screen. You may also be able to use voice commands to switch artists, find a specific track, shuffle all songs, etc.

@RangerBill - Not sure what you mean by re-index the music via the screen? would I not have to do that on a PC with the ipod connected to Itunes?

@RangerBill is referring to the Sync3 reindex process. You can reindex the iPod to Sync3 by going to media settings, then select reindex, unplug the iPod, then plug it back in and it will run the indexing process.

Also, have you tried voice commands? If there is an indexing issue, it may respond with an error message of some sort.

Which version Sync3 do you have? The latest from Ford is 3.4.23188 which fixed a lot of issues.

I just tried it again. I even did the re-indexing, no improvements. I even tried a different Ipod Classic thinking maybe its the Ipod, but still the same problem. It will only allow to go to the next song in the que, will not allow me to go the the 'Artists' and search within.

I know this has been covered before and do not remember how we rectified it - I think it was rebuild the list in ITunes (specifically the file name) extension - this came about when ITunes converted to Apple Music - sorry I do not recall the exact fix

But does the 2nd iPod have the same music database source? From ITunes / AM?
If any file is corrupted - the reindexing may not complete correctly and it resorts to single song advance.
I think the issue is in the music files itself

I wonder if this will fix my issues of wanting to listen to "Godsmack" and randomly it'll toss in "Cinderella" for fun . I also have issues with picking certain artist, and it selecting something completely different . Glad to see I'm not the only one Using a "Classic" though .
