Had to run route last night. Dude's third day out "sick."

But I picked up a tip. Thought it was just a random fiver or something as the paper envelope it was in said "To the Milk Man," and what looked to be money showed through the clear window.

Our rule at the dairy is "you run the stop, you get the tip" in case anybody thinks I'm an asshole for keeping it. But I got home and found this in the envelope...

Between the image and the writing my guess is Mongolian but a quick search said no. The plastic sleeve it's in tells me that while it may not be particularly valuable, it does mean something to somebody.

Thoughts on where this is from, what it is?

I have a bunch of foreign money (quantity not total amount) from my 12 years, 3 major deployments in the navy. I hit the Med before the EU formed an all the countries had their own currency.

I didn't.. but I liked the challenge.

Therefore I..
  1. Used cyrillic alphabeth online keyboard to write the text on the side with https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian.htm
  2. Converted the result to latin alphabet with https://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/russian_conversion.htm
  3. Googled the result and ended up on the above link
  4. Verified the picture
:)
Fixed it!

Good sleuthing work. My Google Foo is generally pretty strong. But I was stumped.

You got a 37 cent tip ?
Yeah, like I said, I didn't expect it to hold much monetary value. But obviously it meant something to the customer. Reminder of home? Who knows, they could just be a currency collector.

Also, I think you're off by a decimal point. Looks like it's actually only worth 3.7 cents. One of my favorite (non money) tips I've gotten, still though.

If this were my customer on my route I would probably take care of this customer better than one that tipped me $100 at Christmas time. Random, thoughtful, tips, to me means they're actually thinking about us. When you're constantly dealing with unthoughtful customers, unrinsed return bottles, coolers crammed in the corner and buried under piles of shit, unshoveled drives, untrimmed trees, etc, a little goes a long way.

Don't get me wrong, I love the big money tips too. But in my position, I rarely see tips anymore. So the quality matters more than the quantity.

I think that's pretty cool. A reminder of, what I'm sure was, an awesome vacation, and a piece of history as well.

google search the image...its the easiest thing to do.

works well for finding someone face on other social media platforms when they post a mug shot here.
makes it easy to stalk your prey......bwahaaahhaaaa!!!!

all kidding aside, its one of the reasons i avoid posting my face, i'm an easy target to some haters
Ok, well, I thought my google Foo was strong. Didn't even know you could do that, though.

Thanks for pointers.

The man on the front side is Volodymyr Velykyj (Володимир Великий).
He was a knyaz of Kyiv Rus. He was known as a person who baptized Kyiv Rus and bring Christian religion to Kyiv Rus in 988 years.

Thanks for the reminder of this thread.

I haven't run route much alone this year. The majority if the time I'm training and when training I let them keep any tips we get.

Still one of the coolest tips that's come across my truck.

So when we left the US for the Philippines a friend gave us a bag of old Philippine coins. Well it turns out their worth hundreds. But to be fair I gave them a original artwork as I had no way to bring as it was too large.
