Anyone every remove the overhead light/console cubby and/or the dome light in the rear? I don't want to break anything attempting this. I did a quick search in Youtube for a tutorial DIY no luck yet.

I don't like the bright ass white lights and want to change them to red LED's (if possible) ala "Hunt for Red October" lol. I have done this in almost every car I have owned so far.

Well, I'm not making any changes in any of the settings menus or FORscan so I think I'm safe lol.

My 04 R32 I was able to replace the incandescent bulbs in the interior with Red LED's. My old 16 GTI had LED interior bulbs that weren't "serviceable" but I was still able to change them in the rear. Fronts all I had to do was paint the LED covers red, worked perfect.

I've done the "submarine" treatment to my other cars...nowadays, the Ranger generally have all the interior lights turned off by default..

to run wires for my dash cam. It basically just pops out. I started in the rear and worked towards the windshield. The power connector comes through where I circled and has almost no slack at all. It was a while ago but I think you pinch the sides to release it. Those long curved needle nose pliers would be useful if you have a pair. Other than that it's easy.

When I was flying many many years ago. I loved the rear red flood lights in the Cessna cockpit. Night vision completely unaffected, but still had plenty of light on the gauges. I am now considering doing the same to my truck... The front overheads are too bright for me. If they were directional I wouldn't mind so much.

I've used red lights in night operations. For their intended purpose they work. For interior lights in a vehicle on normal city streets to save night vision, they would not help much. Dash lights, sync info center lights, street lights and oncoming traffic would all affect night vision.

The only useful way they would help with night vision for a vehicle is in a camping scenario where no other lights would be shining. Most people haven't seen maps or other items under red light and how the colors change. Looking at map that is not red light designated will cause things to disappear.

Though red would look cool and be less annoying.

Thank you!. Volkswagen usually has a couple screws hidden behind something that need to be removed before the unit comes out so I didn't want to just start prying with out knowing that.

I just found this video while still searching for interior removal walk throughs, it may help others with wanting to remove headliner and related parts in the future so I figured I post it. I know it will definitely help me with my future plans :bandit:
