I was on my way up north Friday night for my son's wedding, on the freeway doing about 75mph, when suddenly it started downshifting and upshifting between 8th and 10th gears, and losing power. I was right at a rest stop so I pulled in. Looked under the truck and there appeared to be some fluid on a cross member. I have a hunch it is the transmission. I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealership (about 2 hours from home ) and will be calling them when they are open to let them know why my truck is in front of the service center.

It's a 2020 with 67k miles. Fortunately, I got an extended warranty, so we'll see what happens.

Possibly an overfilled transmission. The fluid will foam and cause loss of power and fluid pushed out of the transmission vent. Did you have transmission fluid service recently?

A PPE shallow pan, Mike's Build Dipstick, trans filter, and 14qt is about the same price as having your trans serviced once. And the 14qt allows you to do a double drain and fill to get the vast majority out. Its certainly a messy job and that fluid stinks awful but its really not a difficult job and only requires mostly extensions, a few sockets, and an adjustable wrench.

67K if the fluid hasn't been touched is pretty long given how thin even fresh ULV fluid is. I wouldn't trust ULV past 40K tops! With everything mentioned above a trans fluid drain and fill would be easier than an oil change!

I hope your solution is nothing more than a fluid level adjustment

I did have the fitz stick installed and fluid and filter changed but that was about 10 or 12k miles ago. I checked the level after that was done and it seemed to be in the normal range but I don't have the ability to check the trans temperature, so I'm not certain that my measurement was correct. So, it's possible it might have been overfilled. I'll see what the dealership says.

Hi Ryan. I already had the dipstick installed and fluid/filter changed a while back, but did not add a new pan. Quite honestly, I hope the trans need to be replaced as I only have the extended warranty for less than 2 more years/13,000 miles. Wish me luck.
