I love 1911s. I find them very easy to shoot. Lately I’ve been trying to get used to the SIG combat sighting system where the front sight covers the target. I’m not sure if all their handguns use it but the M17 does. I understand it’s for quick point and shoot situations but definitely takes getting used to. It’s also hard to hop from a SIG with combat sight picture to a center hold with other handguns.

The 320 X5 Legion has adjustable sights. They attach to the gun via the red dot plate.

https://osagecountyguns.com/sig-sauer-p320-x5-legion-adjustable-rear-sight-assembly.html

The M17 is a 320. Optics plates should be the same. Should be an easy swap and BOOM!

No more pumpkin on the post.

I might be wrong on the way to do it, as I don't own a 320 or M17. But regardless, finding an adjustable sight for the m17 is your solution.

Yeah it’s weird how SIG does their sight numbers. You can have two identical guns with different number sights. I’m guessing they sight them in and test since they are all fixed sights. I’ll have to check out that link. I had thought about putting on a red dot but haven’t really done much research and didn’t necessarily want to go that route. I put a cheap bushnell red dot on my 10/22 and boy is that fun. It’s a plinksters dream. That’s a really fun setup and for a while was all I’d shoot when ammo prices skyrocketed. That and the SW22 victory.

Love my 10/22 takedown. Just recently pulled the crappy scope off of it. Been shooting it with my Williams Ace in The Hole peep sight again.

Been considering a dot on it. Did you go prism, holographic, or reflex with it? I feel like a larger reflex type could be fun.

The takedown looks awesome. Will definitely be my next 10/22 I buy. I put a Bushnell TRS-25 on it. I believe they consider it a closed reflex. I wanted something cheap to test out, but after using it I really enjoy it. A lot of guys use the Bushnell, Burris FF or the Sig Romeo5. The Bushnell is definitely a great deal and pretty accurate with a 3MOA dot. I had also considering the Williams peep sights before getting the red dot. I love the peep sights on the Garand. I thought I remember seeing a whole M1 Garand kit for the 10/22 with a replica stock as well.
I saw a YouTube video of this old dude out the the desert plinking like crazy with a takedown and Bushnell red dot so I of course had to buy it lol.

I used to carry a Glock 36. Holds 6 in the mag and one in the chamber. Riding buddy carried a Beretta.....holds 15+1. We were talking one day and he thought I should update to something with more rounds. I told him 7 was enough. Back and forth we went.....pros and cons......he then said to me what if there's 8 gentleman confronting you and you only have 7 rounds. I informed him....... I'd tell the 8.......I have 7rds.......7 of ya are going to the morgue.......1 is gonna be left to tell the story after his ass-whoopin.........he just stared at me and smiled. He started laughing and said he'd never thought of it that way. He never said another word.

Haha, I’m guessing that if you are in a situation that requires more than 7 well placed shots, you’ve got some explaining to do anyway. My first rule of defense is to never put myself in a situation where I would need a gun. However…shit happens. The last year or two of news stories should convince just about everyone to have at least one.

Nice, I've got a Vortex Sparc Gen 2 on my LC Carbine. I might swap it over to the 10/22 for a day to give it a try.

There's always a fat old guy who's such a good shot he could defend himself from a horde of meth'd up ninjas on their periods with only a 2 shot .22 Derringer.

These guys are the same dudes that can tell you all about what to do in a fight but disappear to the bathroom when some dude is getting lippy at the bar.

With a comment like that I'm pretty sure @BS67 is one of Detroit Urban Survival's students.

A firearm is a tool. I don't know about anybody else, but when I'm buying a tool I'm looking for the greatest mechanical advantage I can get. And that means the ability to plant as many freedom seeds as possible in as short of time as possible.

When I was active duty in the US Marines, our armory ask me which one I preferred to use as side arm, .45 or 9mm, I said 9mm cause it has 15 rounds. He looks at me straight in the eye and said " if you can't take down the enemy in one shot, it's not the gun, it's you the problem, you need to practice ". I took the .45 as side arm.

Definitely agree. I’ve never been one run away from a fight (Al least when I was younger) but the way I hear some people talk about guns and what they would do if someone tried to fight them or mess with them etc. makes me think that they don’t necessarily understand the consequences of pulling a trigger. The way it always works is trigger pulled (whether you’re right or wrong) a lot of questions are asked and if there is any little thing they can get you on, if they really have it out for you (think todays media vs average conservative joe) then they’ll put you through hell. Life ruined and at best just financially. Even if you’re properly within your rights. Majority of the time, the family of the “victim” that just broke into you house to rob or kill you, sues. And we all know how that goes. Long shitty drawn out process. I’m not saying never use one, if my life or my family’s life were threatened I’d make sure we’re safe and deal with the consequences later. There always are consequences. But I think many individuals don’t understand how careful you have to be. I grew up being exposed to this from a young age due to having someone very close reside over cases like this every day. A lot good guys get swept up in the system due to media or anti gun DA’s looking to set an example. Sad, but it’s the reality. I can’t speak for every small town in America and how they handle things, but many are places have their own special agenda, one which we do not fit into right or wrong.

EDIT: and this post isn’t directed to anyone on here. I haven’t seen anything like this from anyone here, just stating why I would do everything to avoid having to use a gun.

And this is why people shouldn't hold military service or police service as some special qualification for firearms or ballistics......

For whatever reason I’ve always felt really comfortable shooting 45s vs 9mm. Maybe it because the guns are a bit heavier or the type of ammo I was using, but shooting 45s always felt effortless. I shoot 9mm a bit but grew up shorting a 1911 so maybe that’s why. I e shot 40 a few times and it felt pretty similar to a 45.

Agreed. My 13 year old daughter shoots more frequently than most police officers.

Yeah, good for her having a Dad that’ll teach her. That’s awesome. I was exposed to guns around 5 (with strict father supervision and plenty of safety teachings) but I think if kids are exposed to guns responsibly at a young age they grow up to respect them more and can really do good for the safe gun ownership argument. The ones trying to ban guns are the same ones who know absolutely know nothing about them go figure. Just look at the Alec Baldwin fiasco.

Those same people make excuses for Alec Baldwin and cannot believe he has been charged with a crime after pointing a gun and shooting a woman.
