I was out with my two boys this am (10 yo , 11 yo) in the Ranger ....up next to us pulls up a 1970 Mustang Mach 1 driven by an older guy at a red light ... I say to the boys wow look at that he probably has 400 hp in that . I roll the window down to listen to it - he sees me , and it has around a 280 degree camshaft in it rumping along. We pull away from the red light and after around 25 ft he nails it - I nail the Ranger - he immediately pulls ahead by the front fender on me but amazingly the turbo spools up pretty quick and we hang with him at his B pillar the whole time until we both let off around 70 mph lol..... both my boys were laughing and I think the Mustang guy was a little surprised the little 4 cyl (wink wink) Ranger hung with him that close ...... Im not delusional , he would of killed us in a real drag race but from a roll it was really close . I told the boys when you get your licenses never do that and dont tell your mother .

Hahah, my kinda dad.

My wife borrowed my truck when I had her car in for repairs. She gives it back to me and says Wow, that thing really goes when you step on the gas. It's hard to resist no matter who you are.

Good stuff, good fun. All turned out well and the kiddos had a good morning. You were there, we weren’t. Don’t worry about any nervous Nancy shaking their finger at you for the post.

When my son had his learner's permit I was driving him out to his girlfriend's house one Saturday afternoon. I had just bought the Ranger a few months before and still had that stupid new Ranger grin every time I drove it. My son noticed and said, " you really love this truck don't you?" I pulled over (we live out in the country in KS) and told him to get in the driver's seat. He takes off and after a few miles says he loves driving the Ranger. I told him to put it in Sport and step on the gas. We get to his girlfriend's house and he said, " Yeah, I get it now." There is something about that turbo spooling up that puts a smile on your face.

Reminds me of with I met my bride. She was driving a 85 Ford Ranger in powder blue. Her line was pickups aren’t just for boys you know. I was fine with that. I had a company car and my 3000GT VR4. One day my car was last into the driveway. She asked for the keys to go to the store for dinner items. I flip her the keys and ask can you drive a stick? She nods and off she goes. Now this is before cell phones per say. 2 hours later she walks back in. First words out of her mouth were, man I love that car! It’s SO much fun to drive! Well seems she liked it a bit to much! Every time she went out “Can I have the keys please” Poor Ranger got mothballed pretty fast. Sold it to my brother. Then she gets pregnant. Wasn’t fun to drive anymore it seems! Then comes, you know dear, that really isn’t going to work for a family car... Grrrr

A wife who can drive a stick is something special. For the first 20 years of my marriage, I always owned a manual transmission and not only could she not drive it, she was scared to death of it. A couple learning attempts with stalling and grinding noises just made it worse. These days though you can hardly even buy a manual transmission anymore.

My 5 and 7 year old boys asked me to do burnouts and were granted most of the time when I owned my 2018 Mustang GT (manual transmission that wife can not only drive, but probably outdrive most of y'all). It's one of the reasons I got rid of it for the Ranger. I needed a slower more practical vehicle that I wasn't taking to Discount Tire every 4-6 months for new rear tires!

That's where some dads are different I guess.

Everybody likes to tickle the skinny pedal now and then.

Way back when, I used to have a 2001 Camaro SS (terrific engine, rotten car) that was tweaked a bit and had a full Magnaflow exhaust on it. Sounded really nice and mean when you stepped on it.

One Wednesday evening for whatever reason my wife drove it to church with our 2 sons who were at that time 5-7 years old.

They get home and my youngest comes rushing in excitedly and says "Dad! Dad! Dad! Mom made the Camaro go VVRRROOOOOOMMMMMMM! " and my wife immediately turned beet red.

If the rest of the car has been as good as the engine I would still own it.

Back in 2004, I had an '04 Lightning in Sonic Blue. I was taking my son back to his mom's in OK (I was stationed in CO at the time) and we were east of Pueblo, just outside of Lamar CO. It's pretty desolate out there and could see 5 miles easily. And there were no cars, so I stepped on it. When we hit "90" (doing 100), I asked my son "Ya wanna do 100?" he said "YEAH !", so I went to 110 and asked ya wanna do 110, he said "yeah !", so i went to 120. I asked again and he said yes. We hit 130 and he said with a little fear in his voice "OK, that's fast enough", so I backed off. Then I told him we were actually doing 130 and he was just amazed and thrilled. He told me a week or so later that he was bragging to all his friends about "doin' 130 in my dad's Lightning". That's the one vehicle I wish I still had... but my tuned Ranger would definitely give it a run for the money.
