It is impossible to tell who is wealthy and who is not by appearance. I know many people who are just normal everyday folk who succeeded in amassing substantial wealth, but live modestly, some extremely so. In those cases, the men and women own the wealth... the wealth does not own them.
Then there are those who live like rock stars and don't have a pot to wiz in. Unfortunately I see this all to often and they're the ones who "think" they're entitled to all the free stuff.

I have a feeling that my current Ranger will probably be the last pickup I buy. If the vehicle market doesn't chill out, I'll probably be that dude doing a complete rebuild on it in the future.
I wonder what a complete rebuild on the current ranger would look like though. Old Ranger is one thing, but this I could see it costing more than a new vehicle, hard to find parts, ridiculous software errors, etc.

They will need to sell a lot of new Rangers to bring to cost of parts down. I looked up some stats and 2020 Ranger sales almost match 2006 Ranger at ~100,000. But they sold 350,000 in 1999 and seven million total before the new model. There are MANY old Rangers about and that's really why we have $15 shock replacements and no shortage of engines and trans in the junkyards (although I haven't been to a junkyard in a long time).

When we married, we bought our home ~$300K. Paid it off in 5 years! Ate beans and rice, didn't buy a stick of furniture except a folding card table and 4 folding chairs from Walmart. Kept our clothes in the moving boxes, and purchased a mattress set and put it on the floor in our master bedroom. We paid the interest on the first payment and add the next 10 payments principle to the payment. That first payment saved us $14K on the back end of the loan. Once the house was paid off we redirected and invested the house payment funds. We've been living debt free for over 20 years.

We still live more frugal than most of our family and friends.

Look at Warren Buffett. He lives in the same Omaha, NE home, drives a 2014 Cadillac and lives very frugally.

I think we may have an opportunity here my 5g friends. All of us here are using a form of media now (online forum) all of us are more or less car/ truck people. I would bet most of us have other forms of media we have access to utilize. Facebook, Instagram, tiktok and whatever else. So if as many of us as possible start a ongoing and growing conversation about this and share, it actually could make a difference. Most folks I know do not have extra money to throw at 35,000 dollar car or truck that is now "adjusted" to a ridiculous price. Even the ones that do have higher income do not really want to pay six figures for a 60000 dollar car or truck. If we complain long enough loud enough on all the platforms we have use of - it will catch on and even strangers will add in. i see it as pointing out and drawing attention to a handful of points. 1. unethical business practices by dealers 2. price gouging 3. any info supporting the first two like you tube videos, articles, our own experiences etc.
we do not have to change the business or manufactures. they are not gonna change. our aim is to change the customer. when money goes to other brands and other dealers things could change. look how many political issues and grass roots clown movements have gained huge attention and traction simply by bringing awareness to whatever the issue or agendas were they pushed. I know lots of negative nancy types will say it cant work. cool dont join in. we could at least try though ? our options are do nothing and keep bending over, try to do something or just be pissy about it and stay stuck.
Social media doesn't really work like that though. Any movement that gains traction is allowed, anything not doesn't. It's a charade. In the stats from my other post I found a 2005 Ranger costs $16,000 adjusted for today's inflation. There would be a huge demand for a $16k new truck but you simply cannot buy it because no one is allowed to make it.

My dad was the VP for a very large machine shop and I know the owner well and have spent a lot of time with him. You would never know this guy had money as he drove a station wagon and his wife a nice SUV. When they traveled he just wore a windbreaker with the shop logo, nothing fancy at all. I just found out he sold the company for $200M. He did have a huge house in CT and in FL on the Gulf of Mexico but was very humble.
In college I got a part-time paid research position that was funded by a local elderly couple. I have no idea how much money they had, but they funded about 2 dozen of these positions every year and were also prominent boosters of the rowing program, so they had some pretty substantial cash at their disposal. At the end of the year, we had a luncheon where all the recipients of their generosity got to meet them and thank them in person. I don't know what I was expecting, but I know I wasn't expecting them to roll up in a 30-year-old GMC pickup with a rusty bumper that I would later find out was their only vehicle. They were definitely among the nicest, most humble people I've ever met.

depends on the issue and what words you post. if you avoid anything related to hot button political problems and dont mention any govt favorites they could not care less. keep it on dealers and price rip offs fake shortages and forced higher demand. keep it from catching the attention of cnn msnbc and the alpha bet soup and its good to go.

Speak of the devil, look what they just sent me in the mail today . This is on top of the monthly letters from the dealer telling me how many payments I have left and what they would give me above trade in value.. they clearly haven't seen my upgrades, why I have a Damper by golly!!!

Wow, I sure bought at the right time. I got my Ranger in October 2021 with financing at 1.9% for 60 months. And I was only 18 with very little credit history.

I got lucky due to my down-payment amount I got 60 months at zero pct. Not about to trade my 19 in anytime soon, just over 30k miles

If it's a Bronco or Maverick they are going to be over msrp. I know a guy who sells at Ford dealer and they are having fun talking about all the people they are hosing right now.
I'm sure they are. As much as I hate that they're doing it (over pricing and bragging about it) I really can't half blame them. If there's someone dumb enough to pay $10k-$20K more for a Bronco I'd take it too.

My daughter bought her Maverick XL for $21K. Got the order in very early and waited 6 months. But paid list price for it.

I drove it and it is a different beast. You sit low and the hood is wide. ANd they hybrid takes a bit of getting used to,

she got it at the right price. as much as i do not like the mavericks more car than truck personality - at the intended price in the low to mid 20s it would be tempting for me. new ride with modern goodies and low price, pickup bed for occasional use, hard not to like it. i expected ford to sell tons of them when they were selling at lower than msrp.

There’s no reason two of us should pay different prices for the same vehicle within a few hours on the same dealer lot. The structure has been a scam at the consumer’s expense for a long time. Buying a car should be an enjoyable experience. Change my mind.
Could not possibly agree more, I despise the car buying experience and the games the dealerships play. I don't care for Carmax but I do like their "this is the price, take it or leave it" approach.
