It is nothing more than a money grab by the oil change shops. I had a state trooper friend fail when they told him that his serpentine fan belt needed to be replaced. The old belt was fine. I actually saw it. That is a big reach.

I had a oil change shop remove my tires to check the brake pads (completely unnecessary as they could see the disc pad, but they wanted the brake pad replacement work), then stripped a lug stud when they cross threaded the lug nut using an impact wrench.

I had another leave a 6" oil stain in the drivers seat. They offered me a free oil change in return. How about paying to replace the seat cover!

I have learned to be first in line in the morning to keep the craziness to a minimum, as those teenagers have not hit the grease and oil yet.

I wish they simply collected the money and left my car alone.
Or go to a shop that is not too cheap to use full plastic seat covers. Shop I use uses seat, steering wheel, and floor covers, the only thing they don't cover are the shifter and pedals. You ain't gotta go to the quick lube for an inspection, in fact the place I normally use does not work with any fluids, just tires and they have a small crew and have always done quick good work. When I was a pizza delivery driver I use to get my tires there. They even check the headlight brightness/aim during the inspection; only place I've gone that as every done that.
