Hi gents...my 2020 XLT has the drop in bedliner. I hate it. I had to cut it to install my swing box. And I had to cut it to install my gator hard tonneau cover because it has drain tube pipes which are just draining under the liner for now. I would love a rhino or linex BUT I think ripping the drop in out and getting a floor bedrug and tailgate rug is my best bet. My question is does anyone know to remove the drop in bedliner? Do I have to take off the rail trim? And once it's off where do the drain pipes go to drain? Btw I'm going to get the bedrug Xlt.....thks

easy peasy. leave the bed rail trim in place. There are two oval shaped plugs, one each side up near the top edge almost under the top lip and towards the back. get under them and pry them out, they are a one time use push pin and will be messed up no matter how hard you try. rip em out, get pliers, go savage, yank em. then go get a cold beer

Then, IF they put two screws in the very back verticle edge by the tail gate , one either side half way up. remove those too. drink beer

Then grab the liner in the middle at the back and just strat lifting from the bed floor, way up there. the sides will come down from under the rails and you can pop them outside the bed. the front just sits over the front wall and lifts straight up. wiggle the whole mess out and throw it on your driveway. drink beer

drain pipes go thru a couple oval plugs you will see on the bottom of the front bed wall, drill holes for hose to pass thru. drink more beer

smile at your accomplishment and send me beer

Hi Bob,

At Ford we used a 5ft long 4x4 which we started at the back and tapped toward the front with a BFH.. Made removal very easy.

Back Story, There are times when you run across a vehicle that defies solution. Some 4G Ranger Regular cabs had a low frequency loud moan. It was generated by exhaust excitation of the pick up box headboard. We tried solutions of mastic, external bracing and so on...all were ineffective. It was a rare occurrence but the owners of these Rangers were not happy. My NVH engineer was at whits end on this problem... I had the bright idea to see if a drop in liner would fix the problem (Spray in liners were not common and of poor quality material in that day). So sent my engineer out to purchase a drop-in liner. He grumbled a bit but a directive is a directive and dutifully purchased a drop in liner from Village Ford. Brought it home in an F150 to the subject Ranger in a bay at the Experimental Garage. Took all of 10 minutes to install and Viola! The truck was fixed! So we had a solution for problem units...give them a free drop-in liner... The real solution which 5G has is the pickup box heard board is much stiffer and out of the excitation range.

Phil, are u saying a drop in liner is ok to keep in and it won't rust out the bed? I can't even get at the 2 areas at the front to put the drain plugs Into?

Hi Dj,

Never heard of the drop in liner causing bed rust out...anyone on these forums experience bed rustout?? It sure is not friendly to the paint in the bed and once you have a bed liner in for a length of time...It is best to just leave it in when you sell the truck.. The bedliners of which I am familliar only had drains at the front right where the box had drain seams.. We used the damping properties of a bedliner for NVH reasons.

Not on a ranger, but had one on my old Toyota. It didn't appear to cause any issue with rust, but it sure as hell beats the hell out of the paint. On mine the liner wrapped around the top of the bed, and it did eat through the paint on top of the bed down to bare metal. The rangers doesn't do that though.

Hi Dj,

Tonneau should help. Really have no experience with the long term mitigation affect of a Tonneau though except for my Ranger and it is garaged in a very dry climate with spray in bed liner. Will say the factory spray in is not the least knee friendly though...

My truck had a factory installed spray-in, and I added a bed rug mat, not the full rug. Easier on the knees, but spray-in and rug mat is more expensive than a rug.

Ok so let's say I want to take liner out to drill and get the drain plugs where they need to go...how so I get liner back in? New screws or what? Can I buy the plastic rivets that u said are a one time thing and break removing them?

well, if you go slow you can pry out the black plugs and re-use them.
Or, just put a couple screws in the holes in the very back vertical part. I think they are M6.
Thats all it needs and it wont go anywhere
