Just back from a week long trip at the House of the Mouse in Florida. We tend to go every 5 years or so for a week, but this is the first time we've owned a camper so we drug the 26DJSE behind us and spent a week at the Fort Wilderness Campground.

A few notes.

The roads into the camp sites are NARROW. If you're not comfortable threading the needle to drive to and back into your camp site, you might want to look twice.

The campgound is what you would expect from Disney. Clean, well kept, well appointed, etc etc.

Transportation to the Magic Kingdom and the Monorail loop resorts is a snap, hop on a boat and you're there in 10 minutes. Very small lines to wait in, as opposed to waiting for what seems forever for the busses.

We didn't do much more to our site other than set out a couple chairs, we were off running pretty much from the get-go and were only back at the site to sleep, so we didn't drag everything we usually would out of the storage compartment.

I was excited to lay eyes on the old school lexan fountain that they've put back in EPCOT, looks so much cooler than the water fountain without it, brings back memories of going to EPCOT in the early 80's when it was brand new.

And SpaceShip Earth's new RGB LEDS's are super cool as well. I never got a picture of any of the images they were showing on it. Far better than the stupid wand they had on it in the 2000's.

We haven't done Disney in many years, but that sounds like a great way to go about it. EPCOT is always great, better then Disney World for us.

Thanks for the review.

Aren't you a peach. Bet you're a lot of fun at parties.

Thanks for chiming in with your single contribution to the forum. SMH
I have to say, people never cease to amaze me, especially when it comes to internet forums.

On topic though, We enjoyed when we stayed at Fort Wilderness, the Chef at Trail’s End Restaurant made a fabulous vegan meal for my Partner and our daughter when we went.

I can't imagine navigating the narrow roads towing a travel trailer, or 5th wheel though. . .

I've always thought about Fort Wilderness. But considering that I'd use my camper exactly as you, I'm not sure that using my squaredrop camper would necessarily be the sort of accommodation that would make it easy for me to grab breakfast and get moving in the morning.

I don't go often because a Disney trip is damn expensive these days, but a Disney trip can definitely be fun. My last two trips were for the Food & Wine festival at Epcot and Halloween where my footwear failed me horribly.

Have you been out to Disney Land? (Wondering if it is simple to get to from Colorado)

Yep, ask my wife about failed footwear. She decided to wear flip flops back in 2010 when we were there for a week. Told her it was a bad idea. Rain, wet feet, massive blisters. Rest of the trip gimped around with her feet taped up. I still remind her about it when we go on a trip.

We're also both in agreement that this will probably be our last trip for some time. We did everything we wanted to do, and with the camper now we're going to move to some more laid back out of the way vacations for the time being. We'll go back when they add enough new stuff to warrant a trip.

yeah, mine wasn't quite such an obvious failure on my part. the shoes were perfectly intact and remained so after the trip. I'd worn them for a ton of extended walking in various conditions before and figured they'd be a reliable option. Unfortunately, the one condition I hadn't worn them in was extended hard pavement walking at a really hard pace.

I went with a friend who's a Disney pro and she had us moving at a pretty hard pace back and forth through all the parks to hit up all the rides (using the app to track wait times and stuff). that would have been the trip to wear an activity tracker to see my distance/steps. I'd have been better served with running shoes with soft cushion instead of stout, supportive shoes.

I can imagine it, but I can also imagine sweating my ass off getting in to my spot. There are some massive rigs parked around the property and you just wonder how much they stressed backing those big bastards up into their spots.

Yea, we keep a pretty hardcore pace through the parks as well. Our trackers showed anywhere from 6-10 miles a day.

We also realized that as we're approaching 50, that we need a day break in the middle of the trip. Going from 6am to midnight every day, by the time you hit day 3 you need a break. And that's what we're going to do next time, a down day in the middle and at the end to just chill on resort.

We stayed with a cousin who rented a 5th wheel, they came to pick it up the last day and I swear they had their 17 y/o pull the trailer out of the campground. I couldn't look, but she pulled it out and they left with no issues.

(Also, if you aren't sweating just standing in the shade in florida there is something wrong with you...)

I will see your feet having owies, and raise you getting a rash on your thighs on day 1 of a 4 day birthday trip to disney because your boxer briefs rolled and rubbed your thighs raw . . .

lets just say, diaper rash cream was my friend. . .

ahh, the things we do for kids . . . well, except @ctechbob he loves disney. 🤣

OUCH...

I do love Disney World, but I loved the old world better than the new one, heavy nostalgia for my spectrum brain.

That's the other thing. Next trip will be without the kid. She's approaching 20 and was a pain in the ass on this trip, next time we're booking when she's in school and can't come. :)

Mean?

Maybe.... :)

I enjoy disney when it is raining, because there are many fewer people. LOL

when I win the lottery, I plan on renting Disney World for a week so I can enjoy it, without all the people. LOL I will invite some friends, maybe.

approaching 20, mine is approaching 11 and I cannot imagine what the next decade holds for us. . .

The line for Peter Pan will still be an hour long.

my appreciation for Disney (despite the crowds) increased after my last trip to Universal (where I will never go again). the insanity of rope drop at Universal is something I've never witnessed before. It's like opening the doors at Walmart on Black Friday when they've got the newest must-have-it item in stock. I was also actually assaulted by a stroller (with a child in it) at Universal. and the general attitude of the people is far, far different than it is at Disney.

I still have a difficult time with the huge crowds, and I don't think I could handle a full week (mentally, not physically).

Honestly, the Disney visits I've done would be enough to satisfy me for the rest of my life. But I have a really good friend who has a really complicated and difficult chronic medical condition and she loves Disney (all theme parks, really, but especially Disney). So I go to theme parks to spend time having fun with my friend.
