Hey Neal
Once his insurance co gets in touch with you and you are assigned an adjuster tell them you will be filing a diminished value claim. This is usually done post repairs. The contact I sent you will be able to walk you thru the process. I don't recall your mileage but if its high this may not be an option. Give Danny a call - he is very helpful.

I did this after our 2016 MB GLK got rear ended in 2020. It was a pristine, 1 prev owner vehilce with 20k miles. Danny worked wonders.
Mike is correct. You need to advise the adjuster for the other guys insurance and tell them that you will also be filing a claim for diminished value. In my case, a different adjuster handled that part and it is done after the repairs are made. My hit was relatively minor at $1500. total for the repair, and the DV adjuster came up with another $1500. for diminished value. Don't settle for their first offer. I eventually got them to come up with $2300. but I felt that even that might have been too low. In any event, kindness will work best for you on that part.

i don't truly know the answer as I am not an expert in the field.
but its similar to your house.
you have a appraised value of your house, in Canada we get MPAC reports every once in awhile, and then a market value that someone is willing to pay. They can be vastly different.
i'm sure the vehicles have the same principle.
when you wreck your car, it wont be in the top category for quality like you might see the range on KBB. no matter how clean the rest of the truck is, that blemish of an accident on its record drops it to the bottom. The insurance people are probably going off a guide similar to this by using an industry standard like KBB.
When you have replacement value insurance, that's the key for when prices are stupid like this...as the insurance will pay you what it takes to replace your vehicle with new. It should include dealer markups if you show them several quotes on the going cost to replace.
I believe my policy does the replacement value with-in a certain time frame, like 2 years. So if i crashed today, I wont qualify as my trucks 3yrs old now.
I believe insurance is legalized extorsion, so i could be all wrong, but thats generally how it has played out for me over the years
I guess it's more of an argument you can make at the insurance co if they try to lowball. Insurance here has been skyrocketing. I got mine back down by calling them, but they blamed inflation so I'm sure if I added replacement value the rate would go up to $500 a month or something crazy.

It is a scam they use not even KBB it was NADA for the last accident I had. Nobody looks at NADA for car values and of course it's always a lower value than KBB.

Update- got my tire changed for now, felt so wrong having the spare there. It's about 8,000 in damage. Waiting on "liability" to start it. Fors says it will be June before they can start. I immediately just need a side mirror for now for safety reason. I van wait on superficial repairs.??
