Curt Echo

Got a Curt Echo bluetooth brake controller for a camping trailer we're going to rent in a few weeks. Tried to set it up tonight. Downloaded the app but the brake controller doesn't seem to be getting any power. My iPhone says "device found" but there is no list of devices and the LED doesn't seem to light up although on the Ranger the Echo mounts upside down and the light is hard to see. I've not used the 7-pin plug before but I coated it with dielectric grease years ago to keep it from corroding and the grease is still there and no rust. Thoughts? TIA.

Pretty sure that the trailer needs to be connected for it to activate the 12v power

That's exactly it. I have this controller and have only used it a couple of times, but you have to have everything connected before you can set it up.

On a side note, when I got mine, many people said it wouldn't work with a 5G Ranger. Mine works fine

I have one and used it on my wife’s car many times before I got my ranger. I installed the factory brake controller on my ranger but used the Kurt once on my ranger before I installed the factory brake controller. Works great but has to be hooked up to use. The only thing I don’t like about it is the added length. The housing on mine cracked from going off-road with it. A little electrical tape fixed it. I still keep it in my toolbox for emergency use should something happen with my factory brake controller.
