I NEED a CD player in my Truck. It‘s a 2019 Ranger Lariat. Has anyone had any luck with a portable Bluetooth CD player that works? I tried one of those CD players that goes through the USB port and it was very unreliable. It did show up in Sync 3 but locked up and skipped tracks constantly. I know you can put music on a hard drive and I’ve done that, but I have a 4000+ CD collection and digitizing just takes too long. If anyone has had luck with getting a CD player to work with Sync 3 via Bluetooth or the two usb ports, PLEASE let me know what Specific equipment you used (model numbers would be great). I REALLY appreciate any help you can provide. THANK YOU!

I was in the same boat, years ago. I ended up buying an iPod, and digitized my entire collection. Yes, it takes time to digitize all those CD's, but do them in batches and it shouldn't feel so daunting. It was the best thing in the long run, since I keep all my music on an external drive and can copy to a USB drive or other device as needed. Besides, you don't keep all 4000 CD's in your truck at the same time, do you?

I have tried to do the same thing with a CD player with the same results. I hope to find an answer also.

I rip all my CD's and then put them on a 64GB mini USB stick. I rotate what is on the stick as I have more on my network drive than the stick can take. Works well for me.

I have all my music on a 64GB stick as well, but the stupid delay in being able to control the playback (skipping tracks, using voice commands to draw up specific tracks/artists, etc.) every time the truck starts up due to what I'm guessing is buffering is so damn annoying that I've gone back to just using Spotify the majority of the time instead. Is it just my USB drive that's causing that? Seemed like a high-end model.

I don't experience the delay you talk of. Actually, I think if I did have a CD player it would still be faster playing with my USB stick. Make sure you are using a high quality flash drive is all I can think of.

The rest of the world Rangers do have a CD option so the face plate for the climate/audio controls is available from other markets.

From there, a CD player and some wiring from a pre 2019 Ford and a bit of Forscan work should get an OEM cd player experiance for those that take that path.

I've noticed on startup it takes a while to be able to use the steering wheel buttons, voice commands, etc. no matter what source. Hopefully Sync 3.4 will help.

Mine starts playing from the flash drive pretty quickly, but not much control available for 30 seconds or so.

Yes, it's a PITA ripping all those CDs, but carrying/changing hundreds of CDs can't be too convenient either.

I think no matter what, in the end you're eventually going to have to digitize that collection if you want to listen to it in your vehicle. Might not have to be today or tomorrow or next year (if you can find a way to get this to work), but eventually. It's not like you can listen to 8 tracks or cassette tapes in your vehicle anymore either.

I have most of my 4,991 songs on a micro SD card on my phone. About half of which started out on CDs as well. I just Bluetooth connect to the truck (or speaker in the garage or the backyard or on the deck or wherever) and can play any of those songs at any time.

I don't "carry around" hundreds of CDs, but like to grab what I feel like listening to with the mood strikes me. I realize that physical media is on the downswing, but was hoping there was a viable option out there. I have started a hard drive with with songs on it, but again, it's extremely time consuming digitizing, plus I still buy CDs. Thanks for the responses.

I understand your situation. I have a rather large library of CDs as well (not nearly as large as yours maybe 500 or so) because in the 90's I collected a lot of them. I still have them but they are boxed up now. It does take some time to convert them to digital, but I just did a few of my favorites at a time. Or when I planned on a road trip picked several I thought I would want to listen to I had not converted yet and did so.

I'm a Mac user so it is a fairly simple process to add them to my iTunes library and then copy the songs I want on a USB thumb drive. I tend to agree with the others on this as far as going digital but I understand a collection as large as yours would take an extremely long time.

I'm no engineer but I can see where an external CD drive might skip more as opposed to a CD drive installed in the console. Placing it on the seat, dash or wherever you put it probably bounces around more while driving. As a high speed spinning disk I think any extra jarring would make it more prone to skipping. I remember my first portable CD player many years ago. A little shake and it would skip.

But as stated things have changed. I also have a large collection of music on cassette tapes form the 80's. No way to play them in a car now. I guess we just have to adapt. But I hope you find a way to enjoy the music you love in your Ranger and make it work for you.

It just dawned on me - My Mustang has a factory CD player! The bezel is completely different, but it may be possible to get the parts and make it work. Maybe the APIM is different?

FWIW both are '19 B&O systems.

I don't see any mention of a CD player with F-150

The CD slot is well hidden. It's centered on the blue light below the power button.
