Everyone is very familiar with Ford’s blue oval, which was first used in 1927. But the logo-script was first used very early in the company’s life, in the 1900s. Contrary to popular belief, it’s not derived from the signature of founder Henry Ford (1863-1947), though the company has muddied the waters over the years with marketing occasionally claiming his signature was on every Ford.
The company contemplated modernising the badge in the 1960s, but ditched the plan. As part of the raising of a massive $23 billion loan to help with its 2006 restructuring, Ford pledged the badge as collateral.
