I don't know if the U shaped one would be better or worse than the V shaped one. It is a bit of an annoyance but it is relatively easy to work around. I really do like the Extang cover. It has worked really well for me.
I think the handles on the Extang would hit the side of "U" shaped extender and keep them from being able to latch - that's just based on looking at how it sits under my Lomax. I may have been able to make it work, but decided I didn't want to have both sitting in my garage and end up only being able to use one or the other.

Now I just need to save my pennies so I can get the bed rug.

I have the “U” shaped extender and the Extang cover. It is manageable, just have to have the clamps for the cover pointing straight down and in position to go between the bed side and extender then work through the bars to get the clamps clamped.

For those with the impact mat, would it be possible to trim the material without too much difficulty?

I had the BedRug classic liner In my F150, was happy with it but cold be a pain to get clean if hauling dirt/gravel and the like.

My Ranger came with the factory drop in liner/power port option. Wouldn’t have been my first choice but not worth tossing to do a spray in or another BedRug.

I would however, like to get the Impact mat thinking it can just be installed on top of the drop in liner. I’d removed the factory tailgate piece and attach the impact mat to the tailgate as normal. I like the looks of the material and having the tailgate gap covered. I am guessing though it won’t lay flat in the bed with the factory drop in liner so would need to be trimmed.

That's what I get for not asking the question BEFORE I purchased  Oh well. In the end, I'm really happy with the Lomax cover and that's the important part.

I received the Impact rug today from my Ford dealer, and they installed it for me for free. The rug cost me $215.10 (they gave me a military discount). It took about 15 minutes to install. I have sprayed-in bedliner. The bedrug has very strong velcro strips along the side of the bed and the tailgate, so it won’t move or blow out. I’m especially impressed with the sort of mesh material where the tailgate closes. It’s very soft on my knees. I’m banking on its durability and water resistance because I don’t currently have plans to install a tonneau cover.
