Phil,Hi Paul,
Tito does not like the fruit or the pads. He was a born in captivity and grew up eating Kale, which is his food of choice. I have mixed up a bit of prickly pare pad in his Kale and he eats around the pad bits... He is a very picky eater, but amazing how much he eats! He is bulking up for the upcoming brumation (like hibernation).
Cool your neighbor's tortoise dine on your prickly pare cactus!

Assuming that Tito is not a desert turtle? Could be another reason that he doesn't like that cuisine. I haven't seen my neighbor's turtles because she takes the prickly pears to them as they are not allowed to roam outside. Am curious to find out what species they are and will let you know and hopefully get some pics...
