Anyone hoping for Ford Ranger Diesel?

Anyone with me in hoping for or waiting for a 2019 Ranger diesel model? There are signs it might be coming. Earlier this year there was a Ranger Wildtrak prototype spotted testing in US supposedly with a Diesel engine, so that's a strong sign Ford is at least considering it for the U.S.

Question is which Diesel engine would they stuff into the Ranger diesel model -- 2.0L turbo diesel from overseas Ranger Raptor or 3.2L turbo diesel inline 5 cyl from overseas Ranger?

That would be interesting. I would like it but I am in the far minority in this case. At my local Ford dealer a couple of weeks ago, I was talking to the Sales Manager. They've got roughly 8 F150 diesels sitting on the lot that they can't unload on anyone. This is evenin Texas where diesel trucks are all over the place. The problem is that there is not enough demand for a diesel in a half-ton truck and people don't want to pay the premium for the engine. I think it is roughly $5k more.

US buyers tend to avoid diesel trucks as a whole. They are more specialized here than in other countries. I will say that the 2.8L in the Canyon/Colorado was probably the smoothest driving midsize truck I have ever driven! The driveline vibration dampening they used to counter the diesel shake made it much smoother than the V6. Low end power was incredible but trying to pass on the highway wasn't quite as nice.

While Ford openly acknowledges that the US is a gas engine market by and large, they are introducing more and more diesel options is surprising places. I would almost expect a Hybrid model before a diesel given Ford's electrification efforts.

Totally agree. Diesel is going the way of the dodo in the US and hybrid/electrification is taking over its place as the alternative energy source. You've got such vehicles as a hybrid F-150, hybrid Jeep and hybrid Mustangs coming. Those alone show how popular it's becoming. Wonder when we would possibly see a hybrid Ranger - this generation or next?

The problem with the F150 diesel is cost due to packaging. You have to get a Lariat unless you are a fleet customer with a fleet account to get the diesel. All the good rebates for the F150 are on the XLT package, so you're losing at least 4k in rebates and adding another 6k in trim and diesel options, resulting in having to pay at least 47k for an F150 Lariat 4x4 with a diesel. You can easily find a loaded F150 XLT 4x4 302A package for 36k to 37k. IMO, the Ranger is going to give buyers pause if they hold to the 2k off MSRP line with no rebates, thus keeping the Ranger cost the same as a discounted F150 XLT 302A. I do think many buyers want the Ranger for it's compact size and aren't too worried about pricing. However, there are quite a few prospective buyers cross-shopping the Ranger for size, fuel economy, active safety features, towing/payload, and value compared to other mid-size trucks and the F150 2.7. So, if both trucks end up costing the same in the long run, it's going to come down to size and active safety features. I just think more folks are going to go with the F150 XLT 302A 4x4 (36k/37k), Tacoma Crew long bed Off-Road 4x4 technology package (34/35k) or Colorado/Canyon diesel 4x4 (35k). Those options are all at least 5k under a Ranger XLT 4x4 302A/FX4 (40k). This truck needs to be available for 35k with the Lariat 37K to do well.

If you read down to the bottom on the normal maintenance it reads Fuel and water separator. Drain as necessary or if indicated by the information display. A water separator is only used on a diesel engine.

You probably not get the 3.2 i5 diesel which is a shame, as Ford will not fit that engine to the next gen Ranger here. A shame as it is a nice engine, despite it's Ford Transit truck origins. Take if from someone who drives one daily.

The choices will be the 2.0 Bi Turbo diesel which is currently available here as an extra cost option against the 3.2 on the Ranger, and comes with the 10 speed auto This is the standard setup in the current Ranger Raptor.

There will be also the choice of the 3.0 Lion V6 diesel as used in the Landrover Discovery, and Range Rover. A 2.7 version of that engine was used here in the locally built Ford Territory until 2016. It was designed by Ford of Europe and built in the UK, a really nice smooth running diesel with good performance and reliability.
