We towed 3,500 miles from Sacramento to Homer up the Alaskan Highway. Ranger ran really well towing a small travel trailer (R-pod). Premium gas is not always available, so I went with regular, and the Ranger ran just fine. Will use regular from now on. The small 18 gallon tank is a real problem. Gas mileage ran from 8 mpg to 14 mpg, so that you have to look for stations after going only 100 miles. Not all stations shown on maps are still open or have gas available. That said, there was only one stretch where I had to break out the jerry can.

Nice trip...
We've been on the Alcan twice in a motor home towing a Subi. MH had a 55 gallon tank but even than there were several stretches' where we were running low.
Totally agree about jerry cans for the Ranger...definitely needed.
Was always pointed out to us that you drive on the top half of your tank, and start to look for fuel stations.
Found several stations where there was one pump for gas and one pump for diesel...sometimes had to wait in line for half hour, and that was to get Canada's version of regular...84-85 octane.
Once you cross over into Alaska, things start to turn normal...lots of fuel and honest to gosh paved roads !!!
We were at Homer for 4 days, out on the Spit...had a great time. Shopping and went fishing off a charter boat. Would do it again !!!

Never had the Ranger to Alaska. The AlCan, Cassiar, Haul road, Inside Passage and trips to Tuk, Yellowknife, and Dawson are all great. I have been many times in my ‘98 C2500 which I bought new in Anchorage. Telegraph Creek would be a stretch to me with any decent sized trailer.
