I saw this recall and thought I’d share it here - not sure if these are also recalled in the U.S. but if you own one, you might want to make a change.

Reese-branded hitch receiver locks are being recalled across Canada due to a defect that could lead to trailer detachment and an increased risk of crashes.​

​

The Health Canada recall affects Reese hitch receiver locks with part numbers 7057030, 7057266, 7054630, and 7057166, which are used with 1/2-inch and 5/8-inch hitch receivers. The company (Horizon Global) has sold 84,474 units of the affected locks in the country between September 2019 and June 2024.​

The lock contains a cap that may lose its retention over time or under certain conditions, potentially causing the lock to separate from the pin. If the hitch lock backs out of alignment between the hitch and the drawbar or ball mount, the trailer could detach from the vehicle. If safety chains are not in use, this could result in a dangerous situation on the road.​

As of Feb. 4, the manufacturer has received one report of minor vehicle damage in Canada but no reports of injuries.​

​

Health Canada advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled locks and return them to the original retailer for a replacement. Consumers experiencing safety issues related to this product are encouraged to report them.​

Well, it’s required but that doesn’t mean everyone knows they need to or bothers to do so.

I read that part and thought, “It could cause a dangerous situation even with safety chains!”

We don’t do it like they do in the UK.
