Hi all!
Last month I was able to finally get a travel trailer after 5 years of trying to get one. This one has a max weight of only 4,000 lbs. I am not using any WDH or Sway bar as it is not needed. Fully loaded with 44 gallons of fresh water and all my stuff and it tows very well, the truck not missing a beat. I put it into tow mode and just let it do its thing. In the bed of my truck I have the spare tire for the trailer as it didn't come with a bumper or with it mounted to the hitch, two 20lb propane tanks, my small BBQ, griddle, folding table, and some firewood. I have not weighed it yet as it is a bit of the way for me to get to a scale.
My 1st trip with it was a 1,200 KM's round trip to Saskatoon from Spruce Grove. Going to Saskatoon I drove 90 KM/H the entire way as I was fighting a wind the entire way and the truck stayed in 8th gear, never going into 9th. Coming back it would get into 9th gear and I did 100 KM/H. My worst tank I got 25.1L/100KM\9.4 MPG as I had rain for around half and my best tank was 20.3L/100KM\11.6 MPG! The entire trip I used approx 272.917 Litres of fuel, travelled 1200 KM's, averaged 23.168L/100KM\10.23 MPG. On my most recent trip this past weekend to Edson from Spruce Grove I did 100 KM/H and got 21.3L/100KM\11 MPG. Going up one of the bigger hills, I decided to see what this truck would do and put my foot into it a bit as I was coming up on a Ram 1500 pulling a trailer doing 90 KM/H and going up the hill I was able to actually gain speed and it had no problem at all keeping 110 KM/H.
I am very happy with how this truck has handled my trailer, I just wish that they would of included a larger fuel tank as even my old Dodge Journey had a bigger fuel tank. With it being only 68 Litres, I was actually able to up to 71 Litres into it, you can only get 300 KM's on a tank. My dad gave me a set of universal tow mirrors and I just leave them on as I use the trailer almost every weekend. With them on I can still use the power fold function of the mirrors.
The two pictures in the rain are when I picked it up and the other picture is loaded and ready for my trip to Saskatoon.
