Did the first test run with the Diamondback. I bought extra clamps in case it rattles, but luckily after about 6 hours of driving, it holds fast.
For it's maiden voyage, took it out to watch the Iditarod and then traversed a mini blizzard.
So far I love it. I was worried the silver with the...
Started test fitting and installing the Diamondback HD cover.
Not in love with the shiny aluminum, but it was significantly cheaper than the bedlined version. I'm also not a fan of bedliner finish normally.
Chances are I will do a mild roll on bedliner like Monstaliner in charcoal gray that...
Not yet, when the thaw hits and it's time to take off the winter studs, I'll take it to the tire shop to have them mount/balance/install all in one go
Once I do, I'll post pics.
There is a sponsored fully decked out Ranger on YouTube with the wheels though if you want to see what they look...
I want to thank this thread for getting me my first official blocking.
Too bad I can't block out the improperly installed blinding lights as easily.
Couldn't have done it without you all :)
I got studs on a Jeep when I was living in Pennsylvania in prep for moving to Alaska. PA tire shop was like "you live on a farm?" I guess they did like 1 set/year.
In Alaska though, everyone runs them. Well, at least 50% of folks for winter usage.
They are def fading away for good studless though
I hate chains. I would go for socks for safety and damage prevention. But I have little experience with either to give a good recommendation (none with socks)
TFL just did a review/test of options in snow recently. Type then in YouTube. If I can find a link I'll post it
It's in snow, so not...
You're correct, I don't set the standard... DOT, SAE, FMVSS do.
Until proven otherwise, LEDs are not technically legal for headlights. Especially retrofitting.
Are many laws slow, dumb, and unenforced? Yes.
Also, yellow and yellow/white are what's best for driving for all drivers. That's why...
Money? This is a forum that generally involves trucks less than 3 years old that averages like $35-40k per vehicle.
Why change the very acceptable and serviceable stock headlights of you're going to Jerry rig it with budget options?
That "Vato-Zone" rationale is the same stuff I'm used to...
Parking on grass will rust out the underside of a car so fast...
I wish I could get mine inside more. Mostly outside. The jetski and wife's car get the garage. Looking at adding a carport over gravel but that might be for my snowmobile.
Luckily it's a truck so it can take some rain and snow.
I'm sure the mechanical aspects are generally good in testing protocols.
I have no doubt the Ranger is an overall tough truck.
And I must say I still love my truck.
But it definitely has livability downfalls when it comes to long term, daily, northern arctic living.
It retains and channels...
Oh yes I def I agree, but this is one of those rain shower ones, not the high pressure touch free.
And it was a few warm days plus the heat worked that morning.
So it would mean it's retaining water and not draining... If that's the cause.
I can def tell the truck was designed in a warm...
Normally I avoid it as well, but I had 2 days of warm weather after the car wash.
Wasn't like I soaked it then freezed it.
If that's the actual cause and issue, it's still unacceptable in a brand new truck designed in the last 20 years.
And I don't run vents/fan in the carwash, just as an FYI
Odd thing happened yesterday after work...
We had a warm spell where it got above freezing for 3 days, then dipped back down to the teens. Not sure if that matters. I also took it through a car wash on those days to blow off winter grit, not sure if that matters either.
So it was back to being...
Well, I just looked at their ship times to Alaska. I kinda need this within a month.
So I just pulled the trigger and ordered an HD in raw diamond plate.
She'll be shiny, but after reading the small issues with other hard covers, I'm paying double but getting much more use for the abuse I'll...
How long ago was that, would you guess?
Just tryna see if there's any clues to their manufacturing cycles.
I could probably just call them but I doubt the would tell me.
In other news, found out if I get raw aluminum from Diamondback, I save a crap ton of money. That might be the way I go.
