  1. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

Well, can anything really be verified concerning this data since it's third party at best ? Why are we even discussing it at all if the data is supposition ? I only got the 400s because the 910S wasn't available (unless I wanted to pay twice as much at the dealership). Had I seen the 910S I...
  2. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

I have one of those magnets for gold prospecting, to separate any iron that might be near your target. They are strongass magnets for sure. The magnet I bought is an inch diameter and an inch long, and it hard to remove from any metallic object it gets near. Any concerns over strong magnets...
  3. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

It seems the filter screen mesh is different on the FL-400S too, 80 microns @20UM vs 50 microns @ 35 UM for the 910S. Would that go hand-in-hand with the psi relief rating being higher as well ? 80 microns will catch smaller contaminants then 50 microns, but that seems also like more resistance...
  4. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

My bad. I based the "Made in China" on a description of the FL-400S when I tried to cross reference the filter. I just looked at the box the filter came in and it said "Majority content USA". Could have swore the filter itself said Made in China but I can't get close enough to check that now...
  5. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

I removed the tire for the first oil change, then I realized it wasn't necessary. Just loosen the plastic anchors holding the splash shield and tuck it down out of the way. I do want to replace those plastic anchors and screws though. Most of them no longer hold, the screws can just be pushed...
  6. Motorcraft FL-400S Oil Filter

My first few oil changes I used the FL-910S filter. Walmart had them for $7, almost half of what the dealer was charging. Walmart was out of them last time so I got a Wix (NAPA Gold) filter from NAPA. It is about the same capacity as the 910S filter. While getting some Mobil 1 for the oil change...
  7. Things I nerd out about

When in Forscan, you don't have to disable the panic fob feature completely. There is an option to change the panic button from one press to two. Since changing to two presses, I haven't set it off unintentionally, and it's still there if I needed to use it.
  8. 18's vs 17

There is a procedure in Forscan that firms up the brake pedal. All you have to do is enable the procedure, and sit back while it does it's thing. Be prepared for a lot of clicking and whirring noises though. My '19 came with 18 inch black rims, so that's what I'm running.
  9. Excess Brake Pedal Travel?

The brake "master reset" or whatever it's called in Forscan helped. The difference in firmness is noticeable. Still on the soft side but better than it was. Why we have to do it and it doesn't come that way, I have no idea, but maybe Phil can give an answer to that. As a caution, when you do...
  10. What is something you love, and something you dislike about the Ranger?

One other interior gripe that I haven't seen mentioned, is the high plastic seat trim (bolster ?) I use my tube step a lot more getting into the truck. And latch on to that sturdy steering wheel for a grab handle. To use the step to get out isn't near as natural or comfortable. I have to reach...
  11. How long did your OEM battery last on your 2019 XLT?

My battery died at 2 years and 20K. I remember a decent battery lasting 4 years, maybe 2 years is the new norm, especially for warmer climates like the one I live in.
  12. What is something you love, and something you dislike about the Ranger?

I like the power, looks and fuel economy. I've had my 2019 a little over a year. Before me, a manager at one of the other dealerships they own had driven it. It was immaculate and I assume maintained regularly. I've put 18K on it. Battery went out at 2 years, but the dealer replaced it under...
  13. Is this the normal ticking sound?

I already have an engine cover, it's called the hood.
  14. Oil Catch Can. Yes or No?

I found one of those small mirrors on a telescoping handle works well for first "seeing" where you need to feel once your fingers get in there. A couple of times I had to get the mirror back in there and confirm I was in the right spot. then I could concentrate my efforts at that place and...
  15. Favorite Running Boards

i don't think we are talking about running boards but tube steps and rock sliders. The old flat, wide running boards were pretty wimpy, tube steps are sturdier and rock sliders the toughest. I'm off asphalt and pavement a lot here in north central Arizona, and have scraped the bracket that...
  16. Steps/rock sliders

If you want to bitch about guys who should just do a search instead of starting a thread and engaging with our fellow members (like you said in the above quote) do it in the proper section, not the steps/rock sliders thread. Proper section for you to voice your displeasure is the Site...
  17. Steps/rock sliders

Other members benefit from first hand accounts and pics of their rigs, not just the OP. Your vision of how threads should go down does not sound like a very fun forum to me. Just because the OP didn't give all the "clues" right away does not mean the thread is worthless, and with an attitude...
  18. FIX YOUR MUSHY BRAKES

The Forscan fix for the brakes made mine much better. I now have insurance through Progressive, they were the lowest rate, better even than USAA. The Snapshot thing is supposed to save you a bit of money, so I put the app on my phone. All my driving habits are fine according to them, except...
  19. Steps/rock sliders

So the ADD ones mount to the cab (sheet metal ) ? That doesn't sound like a very secure mounting. All the holes are already in the frame, no drilling required for most of these. My cheapies are more of a tube step than a true rock slider, but anything bolted to the frame is going to protect...
  20. Steps/rock sliders

Sliders are a bit too high to be used as steps, and if they were any lower they'd get caught all the time. I got Tyger Auto tube steps from Amazon, they were $180. Maybe not as good looking as some, but they are half the price of the nicest steps/sliders. They should offer some protection to the...
