Did you need to get a free extended license to make the changes? I registered on the site but are still waiting for admin approval if I did need to get this.
The last I had looked this wasn't clearly documented. I would love to do this as it messes with my hearing aids and causes them to generate white noise. How easy is this to do?
I got to know that TSB really well and asked the same question myself when I went to get my truck. The first thing I did was crawl underneath it in the service parking lot. I went back in and asked what was up. The explanation was as I described in the previous post.
The first time the TSB...
I have read the TSB. The service advisor said they contacted Ford tech support and was told to leave the thick flat shim in on the left side when performing the TSB on my truck. Quite a number of Rangers sit lower on the left than the right, mine is one of them. Ford has a specified tolerance...
The thicker flat shim was left in the left side to deal with the leveling of the truck. If they took it out the left to right side height deviation would exceed the spec.
Their response is interesting since the angle gauge diagrammed in the TSB doesn't require sitting in the u-joint pocket. Measuring the pinion flange angle is what is needed.
Do you have the option of going to a different dealership? I had to do that.
My suggestion to you is request to speak with the technician that is going to do the work. Have the TSB in hand and go step by step with him so both of you are on the same page.
I think there is a common misunderstanding of what the TSB says to do. The first time the TSB was done on my truck...
I remember the wonderful tires on my 81 Chevy C10, Uniroyal Tiger Paw whitewalls that squealed like a scared pig at every turn. My dash was pickled in Armor All and still looked new when I traded the truck 10 years later. The best was how the paint fell off my tailgate, I guess I needed a damper.
I just put Eibach shocks on the rear end of my truck and took it for a drive. Holy cow! These transform the ride. I was getting a little crazy over broken pavement and ripples with the FX4 shocks, the Eibach's firm up the ride and give some much needed damping to the suspension. I am ordering...
The guy I talked with had a final TSB done which replaced the leaf springs. He said it seemed to fix the issue but he traded it on a new F150 not too long after. I'm not sure how long he had the 2011 F150, this was a parking lot conversation when he asked me how I like my Ranger. His current...
Had an interesting conversation with a F150 owner that had the take-off shudder on a previous vehicle, a 2011 F150. He went through similar tribulations with shims, transmission firmware, etc. He described the root cause Ford gave was axle windup due to leaf spring design.
The top picture is of the right side leaf springs and shim stack, the bottom is the left side. The lowest shim is the tapered shim just on top of the axle perch.
