Well, very few things are technically "necessary", but a drain plug is pretty darn handy..... Much easier than pumping fluid out of the fill port.
Maybe - but some of the postings I've seen seem to indicate that hose is pretty wimpy (thin walled)- I felt the hose on mine and it felt very strong - wondering if maybe someone thought they could save 50 cents on a piece of hose and replaced it with something wimpy at some point?
I would suggest you change your transfer case fluid as well. My transmission fluid was not too bad, but the transfer case fluid was pretty dark at 45k which really surprised me. I've seen several postings with similar findings. The transfer case change is really simple and only took like...
That is interesting - I took delivery of mine on 4/14/2019! As with yours, mine has been trouble free - still on the original battery too, but I do have a new one in the garage waiting for when mine finally shows signs of dying.
OP, I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience with your...
I'm planning on keeping my 2019 for a while yet, and decided I wanted to do some preventative maintenance this weekend. One of the key things I wanted to do was to drop the transmission pan and change the fluid and filter.
I will tell anyone who is thinking about doing this - Don't do it...
I have decided if I ever need to get the trans replaced I'm going to take it to local transmission shop that has a good reputation and has been around forever rather than a dealer. I'm sure it still won't be cheap but I'm pretty sure it will get done right.
Or 2019 prices! Just for curiosity sake I priced out a similarly equipped 2024 6G and it was over 7 grand more than I paid. That is just nuts.... Truck prices are out of control.
I had no idea there were that many recalls for 2019 - the only one I had was the taillight one - which was not a problem on mine. Apparently it affected VERY few trucks, but due to the severity (no tail lights) it was a recall.
Another 2019 that has (knock on wood) had no issues - I just had my 5 year anniversary with it and it has 45k on it. Still on the original battery but I do have a new one sitting in the garage waiting for mine to finally die.
It is a perfect example of "performing to the metrics" - I've seen it over and over. The idea is good, but the execution is horrible, and it does not end up having the intended effect.
Quite honestly, giving 5s for everything, every time feels like "everyone gets a trophy". 5 should be for...
I agree this is most likely the thought process, although Ford would never confirm this. I think at the end of the day, the number one priority is to not do anything that might allow them to lose the "# 1 selling vehicle" status for the F-Series - although if they re-badged the Ranger the...
Now you made me go look.....
This seems to be the definitive version, since our own Phil weighed in to agree that we own 5G Rangers:

Although people are still debating it.....
And now I keep reading and in this one...
There was a whole discussion on this some time back, but I don't remember exactly how it resolved itself. I think it has to do with what you consider a "generation" - and there are some differing opinions on that.
Its been a while since I've seen it, but my recollection is that it looked more orange in the sunlight and more red in the shadows. But I could have that reversed.
Assuming it is the same hot pepper red, it makes a huge difference in the lighting. In some lighting, it looks very orange - in other lighting it looks a lot more red. It is an interesting color....
