  1. Cold Start Pictures

It is/was also on Escapes, my 2018 had active grill shutters. The supposedly operate year round except with the A/C on, to help the engine warm up quicker and operate leaner for less emissions.

I was 14 when President Kennedy was assassinated. I was in 4th hr band and they closed school for the day. Some of the teachers were weeping, and I thought, "What's the big deal? LBJ will just take over." I bummed a cigarette and walked home rather than waiting for the school bus. Even the Top...
  3. Badge popping up, saying check 4 x 4

Maybe try this, can't hurt: With the old school automatic hubs, you had to put the truck in neutral or park, then back up 10-12 ft (3 revs of the front wheels) in 2WD reverse to fully release the hubs.
  4. How long did your original battery last?

4/21 build date, 95,358mi: It still load tests good as of September, no "Systems off to conserve battery" messages.

  7. Alternator Shield

The 5G Ranger and 6G Bronco have several differences under the hood; coolant overflow, airbag, alternator out and other things differ, some greatly. The 6G Ranger has more in common, being closer in under hood dimensions, so what fits a Bronco won't necessarily fit a 5G Ranger.

Most of the brokers my employer used scheduled pickup/delivery times in 24hr format, and denoted the time zone. There was a fad once of backwards clocks- used to see them often. They are still available: 11:52:36 approximately
  9. Roof trim deteriorated

I thought those just slid out somehow.
  10. SSM 49264 - Climate Control Temperature Will Not Adjust With Clicking/Snapping Noise From The Dash

I have a suspicion that in some areas of the country, mainly rural, that there are literal Journeymen (persons) mechanics that specialize in one or more areas and travel to dealerships like a circuit judge. Not uncommon in the heavy truck and equipment repair industry. But leaving it there for...
  11. Shift to neutral when driving

In the old days at the advent of automatic transmissions, traffic stopping and going at busy intersections during or just after snowing would tend to lock up the front wheels briefly coming to a stop, and then mild spinning the drive wheels when accelerating. This would eventually make the...
  12. OTR Rangers ROADKILL Road Trips

Clay, you've been on the Forum long enough to know that a Ranger is just a down payment on accessories!
  13. 4WD a nightmare at slow speeds

E-locking rear diff is the Last, Last resort; only when you are stuck and 4WD won't get you out. It might help, or it can dig you in deeper, which is when you get to scratch up your tow hooks.
  14. 4WD a nightmare at slow speeds

You need to know how 4WD works and to be conscientious of the terrain you are on. When a 4WD systems engaged, power goes to both axles equally. When making a turn, power is going to the front axle at the same rate as the rear, but the front wheels are turning at a different speed than the rear...
  15. Darwin Award Thread

Stupid kills. I just hope he didn't leave behind people who were dependent on him for their welfare.
  16. How can electronic devices be protected from radio interference?

As mentioned earlier, attenuate your antenna(s) to the frequency you are using most often. Install dual antennae as far apart as practical; on the mirrors rahter than on the fenders or roof. Better CB radios have a calibration feature built in, and often have internal shielding. For the...
  17. Air conditioning not working when cooler outside.

The A/C button may light, but does the compressor clutch actually engage below 32ºF/0ºC? I'm guessing most modern systems have either a thermal or load shutdown to disengage or prevent engaging the compressor as the refrigerant oil thickens with colder temps, and possibly damaging the compressor...
  18. Air conditioning not working when cooler outside.

Make sure the system is not in Recirculation mode, crack the windows an inch/3cm and run the fan high in defrost. That's how we used to do it when most cars didn't have AC. You may have a faulty AC clutch or the system maybe low on refrigerant. The AC should work down to ~32ºF/0ºC. If there is...
