I do not build or rebuild transmissions. all I can tell you is what the 3 transmission shops I dealt with over the years told me. it may not completely uncover the filter but enough of an air gap occurs to waste the trans with long term use.

think about the filter/pick up being in the normal position, when cornering or under hard acceleration the fluid will move to the side or back of the pan & the filter will try to pull air instead of fluid.
on my C4 when it was upgraded, the trans builder insisted on a filter extension with a deep pan. during hard acceleration & cornering the standard filter will not be covered by the fluid.
it will most likely be the same for the Ranger setup.
per the photo I prefer the PPE pan. the outside/bottom cooling fins look like they will
be more efficient since they are straight.
however I like the inside fins on the Mishimoto better than the ones on the PPE pan
because they are taller.
