In one place it says the upmost slot will give 2.75" of lift, but in another place it says 2.5". I just want to raise it enough so the tires clear everything while turning with the suspension compressed. Don't want to put more of an angle on the CV joints than necessary so if the top notch gives...
Glad you found it. I was just about to post it. For anyone else interested it's here - https://www.ebay.com/str/roughcountrysofficialsdstore
Whether I coat the bed myself or not will depend on how I'm feeling at the time and the cost, of course. Rhino Lining is very popular here in Utah but I...
Rough Country bumper arrived today. Looks good except for some scuffs and dings on the tips at the ends. Certainly could have been protected a little better but a great deal for the price. Hopefully some satin black paint will be good enough.
Next will be to source a grill for the open area...
At least Partify's customer service is better than their shipping standards. They replied stating that if I cut the cover in half they'll give me a full refund. Fair enough. I'll see if I can get one painted from the same company supplying the fender and hood.
Before doing that, I hung it up...
On a much less annoying note, the skid plate, intake manifold, upper and lower cooling fan shrouds, Freedom upper control arms and Lund pocket flares have arrived. Decided not to even mess with the OEM arms given the 2-2.5" lift it will have. These control arms are seriously beefy.
Rough...
Here's the first mind-blowing stupidity regarding the rebuild.
Thought I'd be smart saving time and hassle ordering a prepainted upper bumper cover from Partify. This is how the upper bumper cover showed up today. They creased it in two places to FOLD IT FLAT AND PUT IT IN A BOX. WHAT THE...
Won't happen. First time I lowered the tailgate on the ranger I thought " Man, this is light." I'm used to the tailgate of a '95 F250. Not light. If any tailgate could use a damper it's that one.
And just like that, changed my mind. Always been a fan of Bilstein and like the idea of the adjustable front strut cartridge. After reading reviews and talking to Frank at Stage 3, and since a fair amount was saved by getting the customer returned RC bumper, new shocks have been ordered. May add...
17x8.5 25mm offset. That was pretty much the exact specs I was looking for regarding offset and width. The 285/70-17 Duratrac tires are just slightly over 9" wide at the shoulder edge so that means with an 8.5" wheel width (measured at the bead), the edge of the tire shoulder should be almost...
Right now I'm looking at a 2" or so lift for the front in preparation for the larger tires. I don't need a grand worth of high-end shocks but would still like them to have decent damping and rebound. Keeping the stock UCA's would be preferable as well. I've read several posts where 2" did not...
Well, the bumper question just got answered. Found a Rough Country bumper that was a customer return on their scratch and dent site. Ended up at half or less than what I would expect for a used OEM unit.
I'll likely still modify it a little for more lower air flow but it was too good a deal to...
One more (pricey) piece for the Ranger puzzle. It's the support that goes behind the upper bumper cover
Looked at grills until my eyes bled. Finally chose the Ford Performance grill. Still debating on OEM or aftermarket bumper. Found a place with several full OEM bumper assemblies that had been...
Not a bad plan, mostly. Would even go for a genuine trophy truck if I had a shop big enough to work on and park the thing. Two-up hooligan off-roading is currently relegated to a Yamaha YXZ1000R SS being setup for desert duty. The Ranger will have to remain a little more civilized.
Years ago I adopted the phrase, "Wishful thinking never trumps reality." A major part of the longevity issue is about abuse and maintenance. Granted there is no doubt that certain brands or models are better built, or better engineered than others, but I think the biggest part in how long a...
Dr_Strangelove - Thank you. In 1997 I purchased a 1996 Explorer with about 5k miles on it. Sold it at around 175K. Put over 40k miles on it one year driving to communications sites throughout a few States. A lot of BLM, Forest Service and mountain roads. One of the best vehicles I had owned...
