  1. Safe to leave hitch receiver installed?

I haven’t hit my shins on a hitch in a long time. I think pushing buggies when I was in high school gave me anti hitch radar. After you smoke the same shin a few times in the same week it changes you?
  2. Safe to leave hitch receiver installed?

Always stays in. It has saved me twice from damage being rear ended. One time my truck received slight damage years ago. But the guy who fled was found by the police not far away. Hitch took out his radiator and transmission cooler.
  3. Level kit and towing a boat

I tow my Sundance DX20 20-30 times a year. I have a 2.5in leveling kit installed with 265/70/17 Cooper Rugged Treks. I am towing my boat 1200 miles round trip in 2 weeks to Captiva. I think I posted the hooked and unhooked measurements in a post a while back when someone asked about towing...
  4. What did you do WITHOUT your Ranger today?

Changed the battery on the wife’s Durango. The battery was under the passenger front seat. What a pain lol.
  5. Livernois tow tune question - shift points

That’s interesting. I wonder what the difference is between our towing tunes shifting wise. I did notice a considerable difference in shifting when I changed out the part in the bucking surging thread. It smoothed out the shifts so much. Before I changed that part out the shifts with the 93...
  6. Livernois tow tune question - shift points

I don’t think the downshift is aggressive at all. I wish they were a little more aggressive. I think we are after the same in between downshift shift strategy lol.
  7. Livernois tow tune question - shift points

IdahoRanger is spot on. I have the tow/tune installed currently. But I tow weekly. If I’m not towing for a week or 2 it’s back to the 93 performance tune. When not towing the towing tune shifts at 3k plus rpms. Even when being easy on the throttle.
  8. Black paint on my nice Oxford White...

My recommendation is Acrysol. I have been using it for close to 20 years. It’s not cheap but I’ve had the same can for at least 10yrs. It takes dried pine sap and everything else I’ve had on my vehicles off. It may take some time but it works. I spray wax the area once I remove the substance.
  9. Help, Quick Question: torque spec wheel lug nuts

To add to the mix. When I worked in NASCAR our target torque during pit stops was 35-50ft lbs. Including road courses. This was even in the era when we were only hitting 4 lug nuts. Less nuts you have to hit the faster the stop. It was playing with fire but that’s the name of the game. Granted...
  10. New ranger! Factory defect?

I am a Corrosion Engineer for an OEM. I am responsible for Seam Sealer, Underbody Protection(what is pictured) and Cavity Wax. My professional advice is don’t mess with it. The risk vs reward factor is not there. If too much is removed you will compromise the pinch weld on the flange as Phil was...
  11. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

I went with the cheap option. It took 15min to get the old one off after fighting the clamps. Putting the new one on is about 3-5min. Side cutters, new part, 8mm socket (I think), ratchet wrench, nut driver for the hose clamps and 2 5/16 hoses clamps is all that was needed from what I remember...
  12. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

A pair of side cutters. Twisted it back and forth till I could the part of the clamp sticking up. It was definitely a man up moment squeezing down to cut it.
  13. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

I didn’t notice any moisture in the hoses or sensor. I have the old sensor still. I might cut it apart to see what it looks like inside.
  14. Bucking/Surging Epidemic

I bought the KA1Z-5L200-A sensor only for $12.00 online. It’s a Ford OEM unit. It fixed my problems. I installed it this morning and have driven over 60 miles today and the jerking/hesitating is gone. It felt like a manual transmission in to high a gear before. The truck drives noticeably better...
  15. Open diff vs. rear e locker - did I make a mistake?

All I can speak for is mud. I live in the low country of SC. It’s super flat and on the coast so rock climbing isn’t a thing. I have an FX4 and never needed the locker. Going from the stock Dynapro tires to the Cooper Rugged Treks was a game changer. I had to get some firewood last weekend at my...
  16. Tree Sap

I have had the same can for over 10yrs. So that makes the price hurt a little less lol.
  17. Tree Sap

Acrysol made by Kent Automotive. It works great. I have been using it for 15yrs. My wife parks under pine trees at work. I remove sap at least 20 times a year from her Durango. Plus it doesn’t hurt the paint. I clean the area with a spray wax afterwards. Not sure if it helps but it makes me feel...
  18. Any trailer over 1650 pounds needs brakes?

To me towing is the combination of pulling capability and stopping capability. Not just the pulling part.
  19. Any trailer over 1650 pounds needs brakes?

This is an interesting thread. I have surge brakes on my boat trailer. Not sure how well the boat dealership dialed them in. Sunday I had a truck load of firewood and the boat loaded down with camping gear, fishing gear, large coolers and lots of other random stuff plus 3 people. I would like to...
  20. 2019 2WD Rear Differential Fluid Change Write-Up (~47K Miles)

I changed the diff fluid around 35k miles. It was really dark. Way darker than I would have thought. I wonder if there is a difference with locker vs non locker on how dirty the fluid is? When I did the rear diff fluid change at 50k on my wife’s Durango it was very clean.
