One thing I've noticed about this truck is it is very difficult to smooth brake. By that, I mean, as you are completing the stop, you start to gently ease up on (modulate) the brake so when you finally stop, it's super smooth and you passengers don't feel that last little movement from the front...
Happy wife-Happy life :-)
I'd say if you are cross-shopping an SUV and a truck, then what you really need is an SUV. *But*, That's a 15-20k difference in price so I get why you'd rather go with a Ranger. The Lariat won't be *that* much quieter. Supposedly the engine cover masks some fuel...
Mine has the lurch/slam/clunk/bang as well. It's not consistent, but when it happens, it happens in reverse and drive. I can put it in park, then put it in reverse again...bang. put it drive...bang. I can turn the engine off, then back on...bang.
But it's not consistent. I thought..
1. Had to...
You can search the thread in this section: https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/forums/issues-repairs-warranty-tsb-recalls.29/
I'm convinced the system is functioning as Ford designed. The brakes are very inconsistent. Sometimes firm, sometimes soft, and sometimes they will go from hard to soft (as...
There *is* the ability to make this truck tighter. ROW Rangers, at least the Rangers I drove in Asia, are much tighter. They don't wallow around like the US Ranger. Granted, the US Ranger seems to float over road imperfections more so than the overseas offerings so it's another one of the US...
As @RedlandRanger said, it must be the mechanical fan noise she doesn't like. My Lariat always does when I get going from a stop and doesn't every stop doing that but it always lets up fairly quick after the truck is in 3rd or 4th gear. I've gotten used to it, like the inconsistent brakes and...
22MPG (data entered into Fuelly)
1200 Miles
4x4
89 Octane
Very consistent driving and easy on the accelerator. 75% 55-65 mph cruising 25% city/stop and go
See how the next 1000 miles go. Is increase in MPG after 1000 miles due to "programming" an old wives tale or real?
Added another poll choice after driving the truck another couple weeks.
Right now, the brakes are pretty much like they were. Very inconsistent. They might get a better bite after bedding but I am convinced the inconsistency is just a system design.
I will sometimes feel a drop in the pedal...
My bed alignment is off, but it's completely even on the passenger side and you can see about ~1" of the cab on the passenger side. So it looks perfect on the side I see 98% of the time. Looks easy enough to fix. The dealer acted like it was a big deal.
My hood was super hard to close, and...
Those mirrors come apart SO easy so I am not surprised there is water. That plastic lense is sort of sealed with a very thin and inconsistent layer of some kind of sealant.
The mirrors come apart (thankfully) and go together very easily. The first time I was backing out of my tight under-house...
Ya, same here. I don't drive it like a sports car and I pay attention in traffic so I'm never hard on the brakes. Bedding in the brakes seems to help with the pedal feel. It's still not what I would call ideal, but it seems consistently better than what it was.
Give an example of where it is...
It's great that we have some insiders here and especially @P. A. Schilke , a retired Ford Engineer. In this thread:Possible brake issue He mentions to a couple members who complained (like many of us) about the soft/mushy/inconsistent brakes.
His suggestion: " Try this... from 30 mph, brake...
After putting a 1000 miles on my truck..and all commute miles, I'm pretty disappointed in the extremely sloppy handling. It's made worse with the flat slippery seats. Someone yesterday mentioned it feels like a lifted 57 Bel Air. I literally slide a little in my seat when carefully taking a...
To give another opinion, it all depends on how and when you want to camp. Had a Jeep with a RTT which was great most of the time, but it wasn't stealthy and there were times when I wanted to stealth camp in a town/city. I bought my Supercab with the intention that if I ever got out and did a...
Very similar here. In a vehicle with consistent brakes, your brain doesn't give a second thought to the fact you have stopped. So after you have stopped, you'll look at the radio, check your mileage, look over and talk to your wife, whatever. Many times in the Ranger, I have looked up and...
I tried it this morning before I pulled into my work parking lot. I'll do it once more when i leave and see how that goes. To me...logically, that won't fix the inconsistency. *Sometimes* they are firm. Sometimes, the are medium and then other times the pedal goes pretty far down. When the pedal...
I tried out a Colorado and found them too soft and too flat. Maybe they changed them up.
I have always loved firm support. My mattress is firm, I just bought replacement firm seat cushions for my couch and now that the Ranger seat is fixed, it too is super firm (a little too firm at this...
My issue is I pull into a very tight garage. Actually, it's open underneath but there are support poles on the right that are not straight in line. I use that angle to create some door opening space with the other car. And it's also not super deep so I try and pull in as much as possible. Being...
