Didn't know they still made Hires. My grandparents lived behind a Hires bottling plant in Escanaba, MI. The building advertisement was a bit more readable when I was a kid. Building has been turned into apartments and small shops now:
Update:
My drives to and from work the past couple days have revealed that the shimmy is still there (again, starts up around 55 mph). I have taken @airline tech 's advice about rotors and have ordered a set along with new pads (went with the Raybestos Element3 set from RockAuto)
What type of grease is everyone using? Seems like the blue Motocraft might not last as long as some others. I've read Blaster Heavy Duty, CV-2, and CS Moly (appears @EJH has had good results with this).
Adam,
No, the truck doesn't shake.
It makes sense in my head...no confusion....maybe just poor explanation. One thing that I failed to mention is that the alignment and balancing were done with the 18" wheels on.
So driving home tonight there wasn't a shimmy (maybe now a hyper sensitivity to...
Bob, no, the "new" 18" set had a tire that had water in it. (not sure if water was there when I picked them up or if water was introduced in the Road Force balancing done a week ago by Discount Tire). Only experienced the shimmy after DT mounted the new 18" wheels. Shimmy was also present...
Discount Tire told me that they didn't have the equipment to adjust the lane keeping, so I ended up taking it to a Ford Dealership. Since the Thrust Angle was within Spec, they performed a 4 Wheel alignment instead. Here are their results:
They were able to get the front toe within spec...
Update: Got a call from the dealership. Apparently they have resolved the issue...by balancing the wheels....which revealed that one of the tires had water in it. I do not know how much. Again, these wheels/tires were take offs. No telling where they were stored (the tires on 3 of them were...
UPDDATE: They did the Thrust Alignment.....it needed it. They test drove it....did not solve the shimmy. Dealership kept the truck overnight thinking it was a driveshaft issue. Found that the driveshaft was fine. Not sure what else they will be doing to troubleshoot.
Will they even...
Changed out the 17"s for the 18"s again. Didn't see anything out of the ordinary. Made sure to use the proper tightening pattern and torqued to 100 ft lbs. Still a bit noticeable...but didn't seem to be quite as bad. It is at the dealership now for a Thrust Angle Alignment (the dealership...
The Dealership offers a Thrust Angle Alignment (which apparently they can loosen the U-Bolts to get the axle squared up w/ the frame) which also includes a 4 wheel alignment.
I'm going to bring it in Monday morning and see what they can do.
Hi Tim, I did get a 4 wheel alignment when I changed out the front and rear shocks (back in 2021). I did not get a 4 wheel alignment after changing out the leaf packs that I did in March. The truck was running fine up until I took it in to DT to have them put the other set of wheels/tires on.
Thanks Michael. When I was under there checking other things out, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary with the driveshaft. However, as long as its not dangling....I wouldn't know what to look out for.
Thanks Duke. Yes, I plan on doing a Thrust Angle Alignment at the dealership...
Hello All,
First off I want to thank @Fitzmotor (Mike) for allowing me to take up some of his precious time helping me try to figure this out when it first started. Now, I figured I'd take up the precious time of more forum members.
Ok, here is the issue. Truck has been driving fine for...
