I've had some aggressive treads that were actually quiet, the Patagonias come to mind. Some were very noisy like the Coopers my Aunt runs on her Ranch vehicles. It just depends on the design.

First change I did on mine I took the tire off and bought Ford Synthetic but it was like $11 a quart. Changed to Mobil 1 5w30 after as I can get it for half that. I'm not one to push changes with synthetic, every 5K is good for me. And I no longer remove the tire, just get the splash shield out...
