It's just another thing they can sell you. It's kind of like diff drop kits. Most people will never need this, but they figure enough people are questioning and it's such a big mark up, they offer it for many trucks.
It may be possible that Nissan uses a off the shelf shock, since these only come on the Pro4x from the factory. This is not traditional of Ford, Toyota and GM when doing mass production.
1. The 4600 and 5100 are valved differently.
2. The 4600 on your Frontier are different then an off the shelf 4600 for a frontier.
Auto Manufactures work with Bilstein, Fox, Rancho, etc. and build a shock with the Auto Manufactures specified specs. They are not the same version you buy as a...
I got you @Rangergrille. PM and let me know when you want to do it. I'll need to pull the bed cover off first.
I'm just up the street from you in Lake View Terrace.

My assembly guys that do this every day, all day long, we're not happy about doing...
The Fox's will ride smoother, but will ware out faster. The Bilstein 5100's are a good entry level up grade that reuses your factory springs. What I don't care for in the 5100's is you feel a lot of low speed road chatter. This is inherent of there valving.
Take a look at the Eibachs. They...
66k from Feb. of 19. Just changed plugs, and added the Ford programer.
Daily Driver, Tow Rig and Trail duty. Getting 20 mpg on 34's. Only issue ever was a bad O2 sensor.
You will always get a better ride with preloading the shock ( like a cir-clip on Bilstein 5100's) then a spacer.
I have run this exact same set up, and from what you Suggested, I would go with the 1.2" lift. You could actually go higher with no issues. The Rangers don't sag much with weight in...
