Just bought a 2017 Lance 1985 travel trailer. The truck is ready with the trailer package and electronic brake controller installed. The RV dealer is going to set me up with a weight distribution hitch. I'm new to pulling a trailer with the Ranger so any advice would be appreciated. That is...
I had the same problem others have mentioned. With almost 9000 miles on the truck the problem seems to have resolved itself and I now have normal pedal travel. Not sure if it is due to bedding or just the truck has grown accustomed to my right foot.
The body of the radio is under the passenger seat. The cable to the radio head is run under the center console plastic. The radio head is on a mount that clips to the vent, stabilized with some double-sided tape on its left side. I like this better than mounting the head up on the dash tray...
I have seen your website and it’s excellent. I assume the “antenna on a stalk” is a reference to the custom mount I built. My Ranger just fits in my garage — I had to buy a stubby FM antenna to accomplish this but it fits. I did not want to install anything above the roofline.
I agree that...
Thought I should finish this up. I used Surgery Super Glue and it did the trick. All glued back together and installed. Thanks for all the suggestions.
I installed wiring for a ham radio antenna under the left rear door sill, removing the plastic cover plate. When reinstalling the plate I broke off one of the tabs that secures it in place. I want to glue the tab back on but don't know what kind of glue works with the plastic in the Ranger.
I...
@Rinn69 Removing the BMS cable looks interesting to me if I ever run any accessories that would warrant the need to do so.
I run a 50-watt ham radio in my Ranger. It's wired to the positive battery cable and chassis ground with 10GA wire (manual says not to attach accessory grounds to the...
Thanks. I read the thread. So just pulling the plug on the small device on the negative cable does it. Amazing. Have you noticed any problems with it unplugged? Everything working OK?
I'm not an electrical engineer, and I don't play one on TV, but keeping a battery at less than 100% capacity can extend its life. The trick of course is finding the right balance between the voltage level needed to start the truck and that which will keep the battery alive longer. Got my XLT...
Our Rangers have a "smart" battery charging system that keeps the battery at a minimum static (non-charging) level. The concept it to extend the life of the battery and charging system. Posts online refer to Ford being able to disable the "smart" part, allowing the system to work like a...
I'm a retired member of the union that represents thousands of mechanics in the Chicago area, one of whom recently was servicing a car brought into his dealership. Only after working on it did he come to find out that the customer had dropped off the car after taking a relative who was sick...
I had the same concerns/requirements as you. I spent weeks researching antenna mounts and could only come up with lip-mount solutions which, like you, I didn’t want. When you say you have a “hard cover” on your Ranger I’m assuming it’s a cap. I also have a cap and that further complicated...
Here's what the owners manual says - "Driving through standing water can cause vehicle damage. Before driving through standing water, check the depth. Never drive through water that is higher than the bottom of the wheel hubs. "
See pages 136-137 of your owner’s manual which specifically advises against anything lower than 87 octane. As I stated previously, the performance improvement from ethanol-free gas is minimal (3%) and, IMHO, not worth the time and energy finding it. Short trips may keep the engine from coming...
Octane is octane and doesn’t change per the engine in use. What changes in the engine’s timing. Many modern engines, including the Ranger’s, have “knock” sensors which detect pre-detonation (knock) and adjust the time the spark occurs in the combustion chamber, thereby eliminating the knock...
The premium vs. regular debate has gone on for awhile. It's important to note that premium (91 octane or better) produces no more engine performance than regular (87 octane). The octane difference is the fuel's resistance to pre-detonation. This occurs when the fuel explodes in the combustion...
