We're going to the Chicago RV show next month looking to buy a travel trailer to pull behind the Ranger. Looking to stay under 5000 GVWR so we have leeway to haul a bunch of gear. Like something around 18-22'. Any suggestions?
In terms of towing weight, the Ranger can tow more than other mid-size trucks. There is a Ford trailer brake controller, or at least one that Ford says is theirs. I had it installed by the dealer.
I didn't want to drill any holes or mar any paint on my new truck. I also wanted an installation that would get the antenna up some but still allow me to get the truck in the garage. So I built this custom mount which attaches to the left rear of the frame. There are two holes there which I...
I have an Icom ID-5100 with a remote head. The body of the radio is under the passenger seat. Since the radio was on the right side of the truck I ran the power leads from the battery over to a grommet on the lower right side of the firewall. It's large with lots of room to poke a hole in...
Finished building a custom mount for my VHF/UHF antenna. I didn't want to touch the body so I fabricated this mount to attach to the frame at the rear of the truck. Ran the coax under the bed and through a body grommet at the right rear of the cab. Had to pull back some of the felt to get to...
Ray - let us know what you find out about this. I'm very interested since I got the tow package but still had to pay to have the brake controller installed
t4thflavor - That TSB is another reason I had the dealer do the install. And sorry, can't answer your question since I had nothing to do with the installation other than paying for it.
CB radio is cheap and easy but limited (legally) in power and therefore range. It also does not have a viable portable (handheld) option. FRS (Family Radio Service) radios can be bought anywhere -- toy stores, gas stations, etc. They are small handheld walkie-talkies limited to .5 watts and...
It is my understanding that the electric brake controller must be purchased separately and is not part of the trailer tow package. Seems strange to me, but when you consider that Ford is marketing this to the sport crowd that might only pull a wave runner or a bike trailer it might make sense...
I want to secure a box in the bed to hold my tool boxes. There are two threaded holes in each sidewall just behind the wheel well that I could use an anchor points. I had a bed liner sprayed in and, of course, they got the material in the holes. I have to run a thread chaser through them but...
I believe that Ford has not come up with a "factory" button. The controller is theirs, though as we all know that could just mean they appropriated a third-party's controller for their own. We'll have to see. More info as I dig it out.
The head of my Icom ID-5100 is on a dash vent mount. The radio body is under the passenger seat. The wiring goes from the battery through a grommet on the lower right (passenger) side of the firewall. From there it sneaks over to the radio body. Custom antenna mount to the frame still being...
Factory/Ford/OEM brake controller installed by the dealer in my 2019 XLT. Part #VKB3Z2C006A. Don't have the trailer yet -- gotta save up some more nickels. And while I'm sure the after-market controllers are OK, I decided to go the factory route. Each to his own.
As part of the purchase deal for my new XLT I'm having the dealer install the factory brake controller. It will be done tomorrow and I'll see how they did. I went with the Ford controller after the TSB came out in July warning that after-market controllers may not be compatible with the...
