I'm running the 91-93 soft shift tune and never noticed the harsh shifting. I believe Livernois recommends flashing back before going to the dealer then checking the software codes/version before reflashing your tune. If they have changed, then you need to request new tunes.
On mine with the XLT cluster, the first button press brings up the selection screen. The second press is snow. I haven’t tried the others so don’t remember what order the next selections are.

In Duluth, they closed the postal sorting facility. Now to mail a letter across town it first goes to a sorting facility in St. Paul then back to Duluth.
You don't have to keep the tuner plugged in. Load the tune and unplug.
Some like to keep it plugged in for the data you can get onscreen but is not necessary.
