I test drove a 2018 Tacoma TRD Offroad with four doors. The driver seat position wasn't horrible but wasn't great either. Feels more car like than truck like. The big turnoff was the rear seating. HORRIBLE head room back there. Just a really small truck. And that new V6 they are using is...
I've had 2WD Ford trucks with open diffs, I've had rear lockers, and I've had 4WD models too.
There is NO WAY I will ever own a 2WD ever again. Here's why:
First of all, while a rear locking differential does make a huge difference if you're off road, or if you're trying to recover a boat on...
Do you have the gas or diesel engine in your ZR2? To me, the ZR2 Duramax looks like the most attractive truck package you can get in the U.S. currently. And I'm a GM hater admittedly. Had too many issues with GM trucks in my past. But I gotta' say, the new ZR2 is a nice package.
I don't think it is. Ford is notorious for using 2-piece shafts. Heck, they even used them on S197 Mustangs, which were promptly replaced by aftermarket 1-piece shafts by owners as soon as that carrier starts wearing out and causes vibration.
If Jeep can use a 1-piece shaft on JL/JT vehicles...
Looks like the plugs are easy to get to. Most guys with EcoBoosts change plugs more often than the manual states because of how dirty these engines run. I wonder if there is an auxiliary battery mounted under that main battery? This truck does have Electronic Start/Stop doesn't it? Typically...
I would prefer that the technicians never saw my vehicle to begin with.
So, when a trusted friend and senior tech who also is avid in the racing community tells me that EcoBoost equipped trucks show up at the shop far more frequently than N/A powered trucks do, that says all I need to know.
Mark Allen made a big deal of this at the Jeep Gladiator display during the auto show. They specifically made the Gladiator bed rails short enough to allow reaching fully into the bed. He's under 6' tall, and was still able to reach over and put his hand flat on the load floor of the bed...
Very disappointed that they are using a 2-piece driveshaft with a carrier bearing. :(
But I love that red/orange color. Is that the Jalapeno Red? VERY nice color.
My only concern going into a Ford product right now would be the EcoBoost engine. They earned the nickname "EcoBust" for a few reasons, the most serious of which is the poor track record those engines have for reliability and longevity. I've seen a lot of trouble with them myself, but I have a...
What does being a 4WD have to do with it? The prior generation Ranger had vacuum-operated disconnecting hubs without an all-wheel-drive system, until they realized how problematic the system was and discontinued it around 2001 I believe. After that, the front end did NOT spin free in 2WD. It...
As far as "why would you buy tires online?" is concerned, I have bought probably a dozen sets of tires for 4x4s over the last 15 years (I trade and modify vehicles often :) ) and what I've noticed is that I can buy a set of tires of my choice from a place such as discounttiredirect.com and...
I used to always order from TireRack.com. Then I realized as the years went by that their prices are too high, they charge for shipping, and their customer service is hit and miss. There are other online vendors which smoke Tire Rack. Discounttiredirect.com is one of them.
Things I feel are missing:
-Truck-like exterior design
-Truck-like interior design
-6' bed option on 4-door model
-2.7L engine option on 4x4 model
-Greater payload capacity on 4-door model
The only thing that's going to sell Rangers over Gladiators is the price tag. The Gladiator is going to...
So from that video it looks like "Trail Control" is just a form of Brake Limited Differential like Jeep and Toyota both have been using for a long time.
To me it's a nice system because it works well and doesn't have internal clutches to replace and fluid additives to use.
There are pictures of the "baby bronco" floating around today.
Excuse me for a moment while I go throw up.
Looks like a MINI Cooper and a Nissan Juke had a big baby boy.
This goes well with Ford's other embarrassments like the new Ranger that looks like a 1990s Ford bubble design contest...
No analog tachometer? Everything has a tach in 2018. Very surprised they omitted that from the gauge package, especially with a turbo engine under the hood.
I gotta' say, that dash layout and appearance is the one thing I hate about the Ranger. Ick. Don't like it at all. Reminds me of the...
Sounds like a typical EcoBoost engine. When you're running unloaded it's about par for the course. But as soon as you put it to work it starts drinking gasoline like it's sponsored by OPEC.
My Nissan Frontier CC 4x4 averaged 16.
My 2011 Jeep Wrangler and 2012 Jeep Wrangler (both 4-doors)...
