That is one of the problems with Fox shocks. They do require a rebuild periodically to function properly. Bilstein shocks are very durable with few exceptions. If I end up getting a Tremor, I will run the Fox shocks until they start to fade and will install Bilsteins.
If I don't get a Tremor...
I have gone through it in my 1973 FJ55 Landcruiser. I did it both ways because the drop off was too washed out to get through without body damage. I also went through with my 1989 STX Ranger. This time I was determined to go down the drop off and I did successfully without any damage.
I...
Yes, I am disappointed the newer Rangers do not have the bed stake pockets. I use them for mounting a camper shell. I don't like the clamps for that purpose. I will be forced to drill holes on the bed rails.
I use a Wilson mag mount on the top of the cab for my 6 meter. It works great. I have transmitted and received over 25 miles. As I recall, it has a 5/8 wave antennae.
The top of the cab makes for a great ground plane for the mag mount, at least that is what I am told.
I have lived in California most of my life after growing up in Kansas. I call mine a camper shell. My brothers, who still live in Kansas, call them toppers. One of my brothers works for a company that builds them.
Mine actually is a camper. The top flips over to the side and a tent poops...
I tow my race car a lot with my 2002 Ranger. I don't have a load leveling hitch but I am only towing around 4,000 lbs too. I do have air bags on the rear suspension to keep the rear of the truck level. I found it is important to have good weight on the tong of the trailer. That number of...
I have have left the spare tire in the stock location since I started doing long term off-road adventures in 1977. First vehicle was 1973 FJ55 Landcruiser, second was a 1989 STX Ranger and now a 2002 FX4 Ranger. I have been through very rough terrain with some damage like a smashed tail pipe...
It looks like I am pretty late for an introduction but here goes anyway. I was in the Navy Seabees. I served in Vietnam for two tours from 66 through 68. I worked as an Equipment Operator sometimes with the Marines, Army and Special Forces in the mountains near Laos. My Battalions main bases...
I am concerned that welding could affect the hardness of the frame also. It seems the frame is made of hard steel and that usually requires heat treating. Welding may only soften localized areas, but that is where the sliders are mounted. That would concern me.
I worked for many years as a truck driver and most of it was driving semis. So, I have the expertise of pulling a trailer. The problem with a trailer is, it limits places you can go. I have been on trips with other people that were pulling trailers and several times had to help them get...
I found one that I like that is an expandable hardside even in is expanded configuration. I really like the idea of the hardside especially in windy conditions. It weighs 700 to 800 lbs and is not what I consider very aerodynamic. I know 700 lbs is considered pretty light for a camper but I...
The manufacturer of the camper I am interested in was supposed to design one for the newer Rangers but went out of business during the Pandemic. I doubt they will start up again.
I have looked at about everything out there and very few come close to what I want. I go out typically for 3 weeks at a time in very remote wilderness. I need to carry a lot of supplies and want a camper that is very light, small and expandable. I go through some very rough terrain sometimes...
Patience is something I am not good at. After being on Earth for 76 years, I would not consider me a young grasshopper. I for sure am not studying to be a Shaolin Monk. Maybe old grasshopper would be appropriate. :like:
Thank you for the information. That looks like exactly what I need for the Ranger. Now I need something like that for the Tacoma.
When I saw page 5, I thought I found everything I need. Then I realized those numbers were codes. I then found a list of codes with dimensions. Then I realized...
I have been looking at a lot of different camper shells for the 2025 Ranger I plan to buy. I fond the one I really like and then found out they don't make them anymore. Now, I have found one for sale and it is designed for a Tacoma.
Does anyone know where I can get the dimensions for the...
I am not ready for a new Ranger until at least 2025. My 2002 Ranger is still running too well with over 280K miles on it. I too am waiting for the 2.7 V6 engine.
I doubt the looks will change much from 2024 to 2025 but I am not disliking the 2024. I can't say it has great style but it is a...
Thanks to all of you for the information. I have a lot to consider now, but at least I know more about it than what I did.
What I really want is a Unicorn because ideally it would be a Super Cab with a small V-6. With my 02 running so well and in great condition overall, I may just keep...
