I'm thinking about adding a Yukon e-locker to the rear of my XLT Sport. I have also seen a few old threads on here about doing an axle swap. I would like to hear from anyone who has done either and any problems they ran into.

I ordered a rear locker for my 2024..haven’t tried it yet.. on my 2019 it got a serious workout at the Drag Strip !

Regardless of which direction you wish to go it is going to be pricey. This is thanks to Fords "Better Idea" and welding the ring gear to the Diff.

If you can find the Axle for a great price then I would do that. You will still need the locker switch and ForScan to activate it. If you need a switch I can work with you in the near future as I have one in storage

So far complete axle swaps run about $1200-1700, plus all the extras you mentioned and the sub harness. I also saw a post over on the 5G Facebook page by someone who tried to go this route and he said he couldn't get the PCM to recognize the locker. He was using Forscan too. Makes me leary of going down that path.

Bumping this old thread up

If I did find a wrecked Ranger with a locking 3.73 axle, I would want the console with the button, and all the wiring as well, right? Is there more to it? If there's a bunch of traction control system "stuff" to deal with, it might make it a moot point. But I feel like that's my best bet for compatibility.
Yeah, that's kind of like finding a unicorn, but I am patient. ...and optimistic.
Any thoughts?

Thanks,
J

Can't you simply add thd e locker and a stand alone push button? No messing with factory stuff then.

ARB has a stand alone version that uses an air pump and a switch.

Yeah, bypassing all the factory stuff might be easier, even with an axle swap, huh.

Just curious: Why new axles?? Are the axles for an eLocker (the Ford OEM one) different that the non-eLocker?? (spline count?? Length??, etc.), If not, just getting the whole rear axle/diff assembly (plus harness and switches, and as was mention some FORScan work) an easier way to go??

Unfortunately the spline count is very different. Also Ford was very kind to weld the ring gear to the diff
