The General Grabber ATx tires that came on my Ranger were starting to get noisy. There was still plenty of tread left but decided new tires were in order to make the wife happy.

Going by Tire Rack designation I knew I wanted a Road/All-Terrain verse an Off-Road/All-Terrain like the Grabber ATx. I looked at a number of tires in the
Road/All-Terrain category and decided to go with Perelli Scorpion ATR. The reason for the choice is they are standard equipment on F150s with the FX4 Off-Road package, my friends F150 has them and he is happy enough that he is on his third set (he plows snow in the winter and has never been stuck), the price was right with a $150 instant rebate.

I got P265/70-17 tires over the LT265/70-17 load range C that came on the Ranger because they have about a 200lb higher load capacity than the tire in load range C.

Initial impression; they are quiet (no tire noise at all), they ride better going down the road and steering response is better. It will be a bonus if I pick up some mpg with the more street oriented tire.

Nice! I have always looked at the Perelli scorpions (never owned them though). Interested in hearing from you at 15 - 20K miles! How about a full pic of the tremor with them on?

Thx!

Is that a Tremor? Let us know if your mileage improves? We have the Grabbers don't off road much. I like the look of an off-road tire but would be willing to sacrifice that for a better ride and some mileage.

It was raining yesterday and the Scorpions are remarkably better on wet pavement than the Grabbers.

I like it! Considering the time of year that it is, the Scorpions having good wet weather performance will pay off in the long run. IMHO

I had a set of Pirelli Scorpions on an old Chevy Trailblazer that I used to beat the shit out of. I can't recall a whole lot about them because there was nothing about them that really stood out. They were quiet and drove really well. They were significantly better in the wet than my current set of Grabbers. And they lasted a LONG time. I put about 30k miles on those tires before I got rid of that truck and they still looked really good.

Perelli has 5 different tires in the Scorpion line. The ATR I have is classified as an all terrain the is primarily focused for on road use. They also have all terrain that is off-road focused, mud terrain, highway and all weather.

Yup... ATRs. They held up really well. The sidewalls were a little too tall for my driving style but I could still fling it around pretty good. I never found the limits of those tires because the Chevy they were attached to was such a POS. I never took them off road but I wanted the ATRs "just in case".

My Generals were horribly noisy near end of life. Went with a set of Cooper tires, quiet and still competent in muddy situations at job sites. As far as mileage goes, our Tremors are rated 19/19/19, my mileage for the last 22,380 miles is 17.1 mpg. I keep track of all vehicles with Fuelly.
I did a MPG test this past August, on the way to a job site I filled up and drove to the job site and back with the CC set on 55. I filled up at the same station and averaged 25.3mpg for the 47 mile round trip. I've never driven that slow since! My best is always right at 19 with normal driving habits.

Let us know if you do any light off-roading with those Pirelli, would like to see how the fare.

Did you get the truck aligned? If not, those new tires will wear out prematurely too.

Well the original Grabbers did not wear out prematurely. They had 50+k miles on them and still had 1/4" of tread depth, they easily exceeded the 50k mile tread wear warranty. There was no unusual tread wear going on.

I replaced them because they were getting noisy and the wife was complaining.
