Hello everyone,

I'm a driver from Munich, Germany, and I'm reaching out for some help with my 21er Ranger Wildtrak 2.0 Ecoboost. I've hit a bit of a snag with the transmission, and I'm hoping someone here might have some insights or advice.

### The Issue

My Ranger's transmission has failed at 87,000 km (approximately 54,000 miles). I do have an extended warranty, but unfortunately, I've exceeded the maintenance interval. Despite this, Ford advertises the oil as "lifetime," with a change recommended only at 150,000 miles.

### My Questions

1. **Warranty Goodwill**: Has anyone successfully obtained goodwill from Ford for a similar issue? It seems that transmission failures before the expected lifespan are not uncommon.

2. **Compatibility of 10R80 Transmission**: Can any 10R80 transmission be fitted under the Ranger, or are there differences to be aware of?

3. **Replacement Options**: In Europe, I can't find a dealer offering a new transmission, and the quoted cost for replacement is around $12,000, which is too expensive for me. Does anyone have recommendations for alternative sources?

I appreciate any help or advice you can offer. Thank you!

Best regards,

Call ford corporate. They covered 65 percent of mine out of warranty. I have been a loyal ford customer for 20+ years tho.

Likely to be $16,000 now with the new tariffs. Thank you Don the Con. There is no such thing as "lifetime oil". I am changing mine at 40k miles or so and adding a bottle of the superlube people are using. As far as I know all the 10R80 transmissions are the same.

Hello,

thanks for answering, are there other opinions. Would it be possible to change a Mustang 10R80 to Ranger, because there is a used Market in Europe.
I read that the 10L80 from GM is the same Product only better build and more robust. Someone trying to change this for 10R80?

Best Regards

I would have thought that 87,000 Km would have been well within warranty. Over here the maintenance interval is a totally ridiculous 240,000 Km. If your truck is a 4x2 a 10R80 from another vehicle might fit, however if it is a 4x4 then the auto uses a shorter extension housing and main-shaft to allow room for the transfer case.

A Mustang box would probably have different ratios to a Ranger box and for sure it would have a different shift algorithm although it could probably be re-programmed. Although of course anything is possible, I wouldn't count on getting a GM box to work without a lot of work, theoretically they are the same unit but in reality there are many small differences. Probably cost more than just replacing the 10R80.

10R80 problems are well documented, I would lean on Ford first, the fact that no one has any spare units might tell you something, and then see if I could find a good transmission shop to rebuild it better than new. Most good shops are well aware of the 10R80 weaknesses now and have improved aftermarket parts to counter them.

Thank you for your advice.
But no improvement so fare. I tried but no dealer will help.... don't know why. So I saw some YouTube Videos, and for a toolsman like me it might be a solution. Has someone experience with DIY? The parts are much more affordable than a howl transmission, and time is not my problem.
