Hey guys,

Has anyone used any specific paint to give their truck a black appearance package look?

I bought my truck a month ago without knowing about this package and regret it! I currently have the 2019 Lariat in Magnetic Gray, but I'm not a huge fan of the chrome front grill and side vents. I got a quote from the dealership and to buy them brand new is ridiculous.

Has any used a gloss paint (NOT PLASTI-DIP) to help achieve this look?

If anyone has swapped out their grill for a Raptor style and is willing to sell or trade me theirs, I would be open to that as well. I'm looking for either black or magnetic gray in the So Cal area..

I plastidipped my side vents over the chrome and it worked great. However sounds like you don’t want that. You can get aftermarket side vents for $50 a piece or less on eBay.

I’ve used Plasti Dip in the past, but it’s always come out too matte for me. I like the gloss black look. All of the fender vents I’ve found online aren’t too off from the OEM prices I’ve found.

I’ve had good look with Krylon Fusion, but as long as you prep properly it shouldn’t matter what gloss black you use.

Awesome, thanks for the advice. Do you have pics of yours done with Krylon Fusion?

Sorry, I didn’t do the vents on mine. I was just meaning I’ve had good luck with the paint in the past on other similar projects. It seems to be very forgiving for impatient painters like myself!

@Alonzo Fields I feel you on the chrome...:puke:. Not a fan of those bits what so ever. I swapped out my Lariat grill with a Raptor style one and ordered a set of Air Design side vents. I took the vents off the truck and tried wrapping them but they didn't turn out and looked like crap. I then set out to plasti-dip them, masked them up then finally said screw it! I'm just gonna make this nice and easy and order the Air Design vents. FYI....$165 shipped on Ebay. Saves you $40 vs ordering from ford accessories after tax etc.

@Mobius97 Good choice! If you've got the Raptor Style Grill, the side vents will accent it very nice, because they're both satin/matte black.

I just can't seem to pull the trigger on buying the OEM Magnetic Gray Grill & Side Vents. $600.00 if purchased directly from my local dealer (GROSS!)

That’s crazy for a few pieces of painted plastic! I’m sure you’ll be able to pick up a Magnetic grille for a good price with the amount of members installing the Raptor grille.

@Alonzo Fields Thanks bud! That's what I was thinking as well. The style/color flows more with the grille. I think you will land at least a magnetic colored grill fairly cheap and quick on here. Ya already got one offer. :) Good Luck!

@FULLSCALE I agree, we all know this sh!t can be be sold at a much lower price. But hey isn't that how it all goes? At least the fit and finish would be good due to the fact its a Ford licensed product so the quality should be there. I don't feel paying $165 for them is bad at all, (relatively speaking) but could see others saying "F' that noise. The stock pieces are over $100 a side and I can picture the black pack being more.

Anyone know the part number of the OEM standard XLT side vent? I have an idea I'd like to try out on a second pair:wink::wink:

Or someone willing to sell their discarded XLT side vent cheap?

Are you still looking at buying a grill? I’m looking into putting a Raptor Grill. I don’t know how to upload a picture, but I have the Shadow Black Ranger XLT. Let me know.

Hey Rich,

Thanks for reaching out. I’m actually looking for a Gray Lariat Style Grille at this point.

@Mobius97 How did you get the side vent off? I am wanting to put an amber LED light strip behind it.
