Was not in the Ranger, but our Subaru before the Ranger minus the ground clearance one of the best snow vehicles I have ever driven. Was leaving Bryce Canyon going back through Zion on back road US 89 not I 15. Bryce had closed earlier in the day, but we were already in the park only us, and one other couple. We were hiking to the bottom of the canyon, and when we returned later in the early evening it was getting dark, and snowing hard.
On the drive back to Springdale UT the roads were not being plowed, and only seen one other car. The back gate to Zion was closed, and needed to go further south about 50 miles out of the way to get around the park back to our Hotel in Springdale.
Go so bad a few times we had to stop to clear the snow off the headlights, and fog lights to be able to see the road. What should have been a 90 minute drive took about 5 hours.

I was patrolling at night during a near blizzard, the big wet snow flakes coming down looked like i went to light speed with my takedown lights on, i was the only vehicle northbound on the 4 lane divided highway, couldn't go above 30mph in a 55 zone without fishtailing. I had my radar on and clocked a passenger vehicle going well over 70mph southbound, all I could see was a glowing white orb from the headlights as it went by, sure hope they got to their destination

when I lived in Southern CA near the west coast we would experience heavy banks of fog. One night on Newport Blvd. the fog was so thick our driver could not see beyond the front of the hood. We had a guy sit on the right front fender with a flashlight to guide the driver through the fog. This was scary because of the potential of pile ups in fog conditions.

Let's see. I had my 1993 Escort wagon become one with a snow drift. I was the only person at work with 2 cars. Before that, was putting home from work in my 1984 Chevette during a snowstorm. Going past 4X4's stuck on the side of the road. Then there was the time I went through an accident on an Icey hill, in my 1997 Ranger XLT. I was so glad I was driving a stick shift.

Nov 2018 - Omaha NE to Kansas City down I-29 in a Subaru Baja on BFG KO2. The weather just got worse as I drove. By the time I hit IA/MO border the roads were so bad I probably only saw another 20 cars over the next two hours. Not sure there’s a better snow beast.

The pics don’t do it justice..

Back in the winter of 95, I drove my F250PS at 2am across -20 frozen snow covered Michigan farm fields with all lights off using a pair of night vision binoculars...got stuck and managed my way out in 4L after I got out to lock front hubs...yah that's stupid adrenalin fun...is this a contest for free lights? I could use more lights...better if you guys can come up with thermo night vision for trucks...

Agree I have KO2’s on my Subaru, and the only thing that limits it is the ground clearance, and CVT getting too hot. That is why I got the Ranger, was driving the Forester in places I should not have been. This was up in the Eastern Sierra’s on a closed forest road at about 9000 before we got stuck and had to dig our way out during a fresh snow storm.

I live back in the woods you see,
the woman and the kid, a bunch of dogs and me .
I got a shotgun ,a rifle and my Ranger 4 wheel drive, but I need Lasfit's to survive, LASFIT'S TO SURVIVE!!!
Cause I couldn't see a thing with the snow coming down driving blind as a bat on a beer run to town.
Then up in my face was the auto parts man,
He said "If you dont use Lasfits you won't see worth a damn"
And now I see in the snow just fine,
The lines in the road and all the signs,
So spend a few bucks , they'll last a long time,
Lasfits to survive.

Let me see..
  • It was a coldish day as the temperatures dropped to -49'C. I drove to work and as the workplace was still under construction and parking lot did not yet have electricity for car heating poles I had to leave the car running. Just like two hundred other cars. When the workday ended the area was covered with thick diesel smoke cloud hanging 20 meter above the ground.
  • It was a coldish day as the temperatures dropped to -50'C. I had to drive to Airport in middle of the night for few hundred kilometers. After every 25km or so the battery light would light up as the battery froze. I had to stop by side of the road and wait for the engine warmth to heat it up in order to drive comforably again.

Driving over Donner Pass in the middle of the night in a Plymouth Trail Duster, a very good 4x4, it was snowing so heavy there was no longer any visual indications where the road was, just drove where it was flat, had to get out and clean the snow off the headlights every few miles. Dropped a tire off the road a few times, either backed out, or throttled out. Took hours just to go what would be a 20 minute drive. If the wind had not been blowing so hard, the snow would have built up too fast to get off the mountain.

Drove the 90 from NE OH to upstate NY one night years ago. Lightspeed blizzard conditions, averaged around 20 mph the whole way. When I drove out of the blizzard the next morning I stopped for gas and coffee and remarked to the cashier how bad the blizzard had been. He assured me I must be mistaken because the highway had been closed last night.
