So many of us do our own maintenance/ repairs plus other tool related stuff. I figure a tool thread is a good idea. * this is a thread about tools - not one for tools.... ha.
Got a delivery today and could not be happier.
New old stock made in usa by usa workers of usa parts tools. Hard to find usa tools these days unless you got lots of cash to drop.

I buy snap-on for important tools.
The ones that need to work the first time every time.
Anything else I buy is on the cheaper side.

Snap-on sometimes gives you grief when you try to warranty a broken tool from normal regular use. Its so much easier to hand the kid a Canadian Tire the broken and bent breaker bar you had the 6ft snipe on the end, and he gives you a new one no questions asked.

I buy a lot of used ebay tools. Wera has been my go-to new brand lately. I actively avoid Chinese tools. You won't catch me dead in Harbor Freight.

I typically cannot afford snap on. have some random hand me down pieces. noticed lately that some of the snap on, blue point, mac and other tool truck brands have all started selling china / Taiwan / india stuff. thats disappointing.
I have a few grey tools from Canada that seem to be great quality. mine are old. are they still made and sold in Canada?

i try to avoid them but have lots of them sadly. It is harder to find usa tools that are affordable and actually usa.

Most recent Chinese tools are as good as the old Sears Craftsman tools if you don't buy the cheapest. For just a couple uses I will buy from Harbor freight. Only broke one of their 28 mm impact sockets using a 6 ft pipe on a breaker bar and they gave me a free replacement. I won't tell you how many tools I have bought in my lifetime but can say everyone of them paid for themselves and saved me money in the end. Once you get into bigger stuff good used machines are cheap but tooling gets very expensive. I bought a $3k Bridgeport and have over 10k in tooling at this point. I have complete woodworking, metalworking, and auto repair shops including cnc equipment at this point in life with about 3600 square foot of shop space.

I have broken a few china tools but mainly due to abuse. my issue with china tools is the fitment. Ive rounded out several nuts and bolts with crap sockets and wrenches. Ive slowly been getting rid of the junk ones and replace piece or two at a time with better ones. the other reason I prefer usa tools is simply to try to keep some tool manufacturing still in the states. used to have lots of options of usa tools.

From my understanding, there is a difference in quality between tools manufactured in China vs tools manufactured in Taiwan. Those manufactured in Taiwan are supposed to be better. GearWrench is an example.
