My Toyo OC ATIIIs are not wearing as well as they should. It looks like I am going to have to replace mine before 30K. Power, curvy and rough roads, take a toll and can cause wear. I will probably run them again because I like the weight (41 lbs), but wish I could find something with better wear with similar weight and tread aggressiveness/depth.

Yea I was surprised at the wear too as that goes against all that I have heard on these. Again, I believe the roads here in WV have a lot to do with it. I am a somewhat agressive driver, but it is not like I am doing burnouts at every stop either and they are wearing evenly front and rear, so I say its the roads.

And about weight, that is a very important factor and is why the Toyos are still my first choice.

Matt, that seems very odd even with the driving style you noted.

Of course many things can impact tire wear, with the most common being maintaining proper inflation and alignment. Toyo's own FAQ states: "Maintaining tire pressure is critical in caring for your tires. Tire pressure should be checked monthly, even if your vehicle is equipped with TPMS."

My experience with my TOYO ATIII's to date; I had them installed on March 2021 @ 24,985 miles. I have 53,942 now with almost no signs of wear (28,957K)!

A few months back I noticed a screw in one of the tires and drove to Discount Tire to have them check it out (around 52K at the time)...luckily the screw was not in deep and came right out without damaging the tire. DT always checks the tread depth, and to my surprise he noted I had NO wear at all (approximately 26K on them). That equates to roughly 27K with no wear!

For reference, I have the Toyo Open Country A/T III, 285/60R18, 120S XL. The only suspension mods I have are a RangerLifts 3" Leveling Kit and Bilstein 5100s in the rear. 98% of my miles have been ON-road city/highway.

I'm really curious how you developed this wear on so few miles with a tire that has a 65K treadwear warranty. As @Dr3wDrop noted, I would contact Toyo and file a Warranty claim.

I live close to DT so I stopped by earlier today and had them measure my tread depth. I had 3 tires at 9/32" and one at 8/32" (in the middle). DT noted a "good" tire wears about 1/32" every 5K miles "on average". That works out to the 13/32" on a new TOYO OC AT III (65K tire) as you noted. Of course they recommend replacement between 4-5/32", which would mean "average" replacement at around 40K miles not 65K.

With that in mind, if you have 30K on yours, they should be around 6/32" "on average". Mine seem to be getting above average wear being at 8-9/32" at 28,957 miles.

You might visit a DT near you and ask them to do a tread depth check (they do it free). That will give you numbers to compare and may provide further info for a warranty claim. Keep us updated on what you find out!

My truck has 32K miles overall, but the tires about 16K. I do not have a depth gauge, but I will attempt to do a crude measurement tonight.

So at 16K you should be at or around 10/32".

That’s not terrible but not great either. They are wearing evenly so far which is good.

For further reference, I keep mine at 35psi and do rotation every 10k.

Yea, not happy with the wear. Excessive for an expensive all-terrain tire IMHO. Looking into different brands with lower weights to weigh my options going down the road. Love how the tires look and perform though.
