Back in the late 1990s we purchased tickets to Bristol nascar race, in the then brand new Allison grand stands . As we settled in to our seats we noticed some drops of "water" dropping in the area of our seats. It was from the plumbing pipes below the suits above us. About 10 of us vacated the seats and were standing at the top of the stands. Long story short, we were escorted up to a suite. Fully stocked with food and drinks. Way cool, right?

In the fancy suite, the sound was muted, there was no smell of gas or burning rubber, it was like watching on TV. I would much rather be in the stands.

As one of my dirt racing fan friends always said. "If there isn't dirt in your drink you are not really at the races"
Went to a dirt track race with some friends and had a blast.

When we came out to the car it was solid red (GA) with the dirt from the races.

All duly noted that the dirtiest vehicle would be the one we took to the next race. ?

Reminds me of the time we went to our first NHRA National in Englishtown, NJ. We were sitting on the right side just off the starting line and about an hour into the race I noticed my white shirt was covered in black spots. It was rubber from the tires floating through the air. Can't imagine how much rubber I ate and drank that day.:giggle:

Back in 2000, I had a good friend that work for a company that sold hundreds of computers per week. His supplier gave him 2 tickets to an IRL race at Texas Stadium that included pit pass and in field access, free food and drinks for Saturday and Sunday. I went along with him. It was going to be a great experience as I've never been to a live race. But it wasn't to be. Rained out all weekend.

Attended my first dirt race at a very small track in Attica Ohio. Literally a track built right out in a corn field. Winged Sprint cars are fire breathing monsters. :) Not only did we get dirt in our drinks but also in our hair , faces, and that dirt and rubber in your teeth was a new experience. Quickly learned to cover your drink and suppress the smile.

It was awesome. :rockon::LOL::LOL:

Hi Folks,

Spending 22 years as a trackside official for the Indycar series...End of the day we were covered from waist up with tire shmoo. If we had to hit the ground next to the wall due to a major crash we also received the hot oil treatment as the water and oil showered down on us...Hot oil meant trashed clothes....no way to clean them. We all looked like racoons at the end of the day when we pulled off the sun glasses...

Best,
Phil

My dirt track story...
My friend and I decided to go to Fremont speedway in Sandusky County, Ohio one Saturday not knowing who was racing that night. Now I had been there when I was younger and never had a problem getting seats. We get there and parking is full. Get into track and main grandstands are filled. Found a section in the smaller stands coming out of turn 4 that was totally empty. We found out during the first heat race why. The all star sprints were running and we were covered in dirt. Fortunately we had sunglasses. After the race we were taking off our shirts and shaking the dust off before the ride home.
Also been trackside at Norwalk and and at circle tracks and covered in rubber.
Good times.

Was at NHRA events in my younger days, Drag racing is my favorite to be at. Have been to Maple Grove in Pa. a few times, but the best was the Spring Nationals' in Norwalk Ohio. Watched the Man, John Force start his reign of terror on the Funny Car world. There was nothing like being on Pit Row when they did warm-ups. Out standing.

New England Dragway got a NHRA national event 10 years ago and I have been there every year but 2020. I think it was the second year but anyway Courtney Force was at her pit signing autographs and taking pictures with the fans. I went up and asked if I could have a picture with her. I set my phone for a selfy, Courtney cozied up and put her head on my shoulder and I snapped the picture. As I walked away and checked the picture some how I had flipped it around to the main camera and had a picture of the NAPA sign on the other side of the pit.

Did get a picture with Matt Hagen and Bruno Massel in 2019.
