how was you purchase experience?
mine has been nothing short of a complete disaster.
on june 7/21 i placed my order in at my local leer dealer to the ELKHART INDIANA plant and on july 25/21 the cap showed up PAINTED THE WRONG COLOUR. when the order was placed my vin number and paint code were included with the order along with a 1000.00 dollar deposit. my ranger is lightning blue and the cap is antimatter blue( F150 colour)
leers responce was #1 accept the cap as is #2 return cap with the fuel door off my truck (NOT)
or #3 have a local body shop repaint cap at leers expense. being the nice guy that i am i chose to get 3 quotes from local body shops. the first one was for 600.00 the second one was for 800.00 and the third one for 1350.00. local body shops in my area charge upwards of 150.00 an hour just for labour. that dont leave much for paint, clear coat and prep work.all 3 quotes came in on AUG6/21 and as of todays date leer has NOT returned any calls to my local dealer for appoval for any work.
what would you guys do if this happened to you???
My apologies, as it won't help in this case, but for anyone else/next time:
My cap is a Century, nearly identical to the one by Leer (same parent company, same factory, etc). I went through Truck Smart in Rocklin in Fall of 2020, did the entire ordering process over email with a phone call at the end for my CC number.

Part of the ordering process was for me to send them a picture of the door plate that includes the paint code (N6 for Lightning Blue). I would highly recommend always sending a pic of that plate so it's documented what color you ordered. It bizarre that Leer wants you to remove a part of your truck instead of a pic of the paint code?

Sorry to hear all the troubles... I had heard decent things about Leer and this may be just a hiccup. It is tough you got the short end of the stick in terms of the draw of the lottery. Just to mention like @ScrappyLaptop , it is very important that the dealer matches the code on the door with the dealer of the cap. When I purchased my ARE cap at a local dealer, he instantly went to my door and checked the color code to send it to ARE.

thank you AWD.NV for finding that phone number. I just tried to call it and of course no one answered but I did leave a detailed message with my phone number. there recorded message said they close at 4pm. so I may have just missed them and will try again monday morning. hopefuly I can speak to some one and explain my situation. I believe that the local dealer here is not been straight with me by refusing to give me leers phone number. again thank you.

when I was placing the order here the dealer went out to my truck and took a picture of my vin number and the paint code and read it off of his phone when he typed out the order on his computer. I have a paper reciept that clearly shows both vin and paint code are correct, he also wrote in lightning blue right beside the paint code so I can only assume that the fault is with leer.

I got my Leer when the Ranger was still relatively new. Mine was around $3,000, but largely because of the options. Took about 3 weeks. When it showed up, it matched perfectly but it had received a ding during shipping, but fortunately in a spot I'd never see near the cab. (The dealer touched it up and gave my $100 back)

If your situation had happened to me, I'd reject acceptance and have them send out another one with the correct color. I don't like having things repainted because unless they totally disassemble the thing (which they won't) you inevitably you will see overspray somewhere and it will bug you for as long as you own it. Sending in the fuel door is silly. They already have the correct color codes. Clearly some guy in shop picked the wrong color when painting yours. It was clearly their screw up and annoying you further is stupid.

UPDATE!!!!
on FRIDAY I attempted to call leer at the number that awd.nv provided for me ( thank you again ) with no answser so I left a detailed message for the customer service rep with my return phone numbers and of course NO REPLY. MONDAY morning at 9am i called again and finally was able to talk to the service rep and explained my situation. when I told him where I lived he almost immediatly knew who I was and asked what had happened. I apolagised for getting angery and at my frustration with the local dealer who I felt was not trying to help. I also said that i would still like to buy the cap but only at MY preferred shop whom I trust will do a good job and stand behind there work. he said he would call the local dealer and review the 3 three quotes and have the dealer call me with the results. I also reminded him that the quotes were in canadian dollars and with the exchange rate the cost would be even lower. so... NO CALL from the dealer yesterday. today I tried to call leer again and again no pickup so I left another message. with in 10 minutes the local dealer calls and said that there must have been a miscomunication between him and leer and that he has athorization to have the cap sent to my preferred body shop for repaint at a quote of 1275.00 CDN. he said that he would deliver the cap to the body shop in a day or two and the shop will call me to bring my truck to verify the vin and paint coat numbers and take pics of my truck for proper paint match. he said that i would be dealing directly with the shop owners son who is taking over the buisness from his parents. I will be sure to tell him not to rush and do a good job. after painting the local dealer wiil pick it up and call me for the install and wiring. WOW..... i think tonight i will sleep like a baby. thank you all for your help and advise.

What I don't understand is how the mistake wasn't caught on delivery to the dealer. The color code for each cap would typically be listed on the invoice. When the dealer is having the cap or caps unloaded from the delivery trailer, you would think they'd be checking each cap over to be sure the specs are correct and match what is listed on the invoice. Such as... if it was supposed to have a front slider, does it have the front slider? If it was to have boat/ladder racks... are they on it? If the cap is supposed to be painted a certain paint code, is the correct code listed for it on the invoice?

i totally agree with you.it seems as though my dealer only cares about himself and leer not his customers. i will promise you one thing. once my cap is painted and installed on my truck i will never return to this dealer again. if any future issues arise i will contact leer directly and deal with them first. also any issues with the paint i will deal with the shop who painted it where i know i will be treated with respect and as a friend.

Agreed, also very happy to hear you are getting exactly what you want. I get all the troubles you went through but now you will have what you want and perhaps a future purchase you will consider a different one or Leer based on your experience. Somethings in life just happen...

my experience was awful too. I got the cap after a long wait.. They charged $4000 taxes in and installed it with many leaks, I had them fix that up and when I climbed under the truck to see how the wiring job went I was horrified. They ran the wire all the way back on the underside completely exposed. This was a piece of 16 guage wire with no extra protection. I complained with pictures to the Cap It head office and got the typical gee we're sorry you weren't happy type apology.. Not the sorry we screwed up type. I am just really disappointed and although they offered to come to my house and fix their problem, I just refused to allow that guy to touch my new truck again.. I mean who allows this to happen and how many other trucks have been wired like that...
All in all I would never recommend buying another thing from that Cap it dealer and I would really doubt if I would buy another Leer Canopy.

In my case, I got my cap from an aftermarket dealer who wouldn't have likely known the difference in colors by name, especially for a new model. So I can understand the dealer not realizing the mistake until the truck and cap were brought together for the first time.

He should have noticed the paint color code was different than what he ordered. The paint color code is always listed on the delivery invoice.
