Baja Designs pocket fogs which lense?

Moving my Baja Designs Squadron Pros from my FiST to the Ranger. The bracket looks to be the same on both as well as the plug. Should be a simple swap as far as videos show me, might just need some standoffs to mount up to the Ranger.

They've got a clear driving/Combo lense on now. But I've also got a set of clear and a set of amber wide/cornering lenses I could put on.

The FiST had shitty halogen headlamps, thus the driving/combo pattern to throw more light down the road. The Ranger is a Lariat so not really needed here, pretty much decided on the wide/cornering pattern. So amber or clear?

I use my "fogs" constantly, as DRL too. With the height of the truck that may change a bit due to the Pro's output and oncoming traffic. But I will still use them a lot. Will amber with the white factory LEDs look weird without foggy conditions?

I get a moderate amount of fog here but it's mostly at dawn/dusk. I like the idea of the amber but don't want to hate them and have to repeat the pain in the ass process to switch 'em out again.


Thoughts?

Any shots of high powered amber fogs with Lariat LEDs in clear conditions?

I ran the yellow diffused lenses on my Honda Pilot and plan on getting a set for the ranger. I have been wanting to try the lens that has two direct and two spread/diffused ones but eh, that it what my ditch lights were for.

I dont get fog in the desert but the yellow is awesome in dirt which is probably a similar principle.

In NV I have never been hassled by police and I swear the safety aspect of that LED Yellow is worth it alone.

I'm leaning towards the amber, but like I said am concerned the color will wash out the headlights if I run them all the time.

But at the height the Ranger is and the output of the Pros (4600 lumens each) I don't think I'll be able to run them all the time at night without blinding folks.

As an experiment I drove home from work with the factory "fogs" (driving lights really) off. Visibility is fine. I can drive normal roads with them off obviously if the brighness/color are an issue.

Think I'm gonna go with the amber and see how it goes. If it turns out to be too bright for constant use I'll consider grabbing amber spot lenses or amber driving/combo lenses to make them more effective in the fog/dust/dirt.

I have also considered leaving the oem halogen fog in and just running 4 squadron sport in the lower grill opening. Apparently that does not mess with the adaptive cruise control.

Yeah I understand. It is why I have not yet pulled the trigger on my lighting yet. Keep overthinking it. I just need to pull the trigger already.

Have the amber pro fogs from Diode Dynamics and no regrets. Throw plenty of light and work great in good or bad conditions...although the most I'd ever have to worry about is dusty desert conditions.

Awesome, the DD pros are similar in output to the BD Squadron Pros. Good to know.

I'm using their "SAE Fog/Wide" pattern. The install was a biotch but definitely happy with the swap.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the install. My crash bars are intact so it won't be fun.

Considering doing a couple of additional things whole I'm in there. I might replace the crashbars with aftermarket. And I might pick up the mount @Thesspirate made and throw it in now, as I will eventually be adding it. I know that doing it all a second time will be easier, but without even doing it once I know I don't want to get in there twice. I just keep thinking that a single pod will look silly with it.


Did you come in from the front? Or did you loosen the bumper to remove the crash bars and come in from the back?

I was stubborn and put the truck up on ramps and accessed it from the bottom between the crash bar and bumper. It was tight! Which turned an easy install into a pain in the butt haha. I have a Lariat so I had to remove the air dam from both sides. I wouldn’t advise doing it this way if you’re plan on other changes anyway. Just loosen the bumper enough where you can slide out the crash bars. After the install I ended up cutting out my crash bars but have a BDS set to replace them. The air dams will stay deleted.

I like the price on the DD but the only thing is that I got used to the nice yellow of the Squadrons and love it. The DD seem a bit more on the warmer side/more amber than Squadrons? Not sure if its just the cameras/youtube.

Stage3 has an install video, while not the easiest, didn't seem too hard. Trying to visualize the crash bar in place at least.
