My grandpa lived to 104 and was in a soldier’s home. He really liked it there. About 6 months before he passed away he had 6 Generals from the pentagon come visit. At the time he was one of the last 5 survivors from WWI living.
As a kid I remember some of the stories he told of the war. For a young boy it has your eyeballs bulging for the next sentence.
Those Generals stayed and talked with him for 5 hours. Was scheduled for an hour long photo op. Seems the history and memories he was sharing had them captivated as was I many years before.
Sure miss my Grandfather, a true mentor and a tough Army soldier.
